ZachTheZip
We all know that we lack depth at almost every position. You have been put in charge of coordinating the remainder of this year's recruiting class. Where should our coaches focus their efforts? Which positions need a boost the most? Would a mostly unheralded incoming freshman be an improvement somewhere? Here are the details that you need to know: 15 seniors are graduating 3 offensive linemen (3 starting) 3 cornerbacks (1 starting) 2 linebackers (2 starting) 1 defensive lineman 1 running back 1 tight end 1 safety (1 starting) 1 longsnapper (1 starting) 1 wide receiver (1 starting) 1 quarterback (1 starting) We have five known verbal commitments. 1 quarterback 1 safety 1 tight end 1 offensive tackle 1 center Without knowing the scholarship situation for certain, let's say we have room for 10 more recruits. What positions should they be? High school or JUCO? Where do we focus on building depth, knowing what we have returning? Remember that coach Bowden likes to redshirt as many freshmen as possible, so assume we won't find more than one or two starters in this year's class. ZachTheZip
I'm not actually too worried about the offensive line. Yes, we're losing three starters, but that position is actually fairly deep. We have a lot of young talent there. With the ten remaining spots, I would like to see us go after one LB, two or three for the DL, one LS, one or two quick-hitting RBs, another Safety, two WRs, and a Guard. PB1719
2 of the following, Saftey, CB, LB, DL 1 LS, and one burner at RB or WR, a CJ Spiller type guy that can catch, run, and get separation.
LZIp
Defense, Defense, and Defense. Preferably a mix of JUCO and true freshman. I think on offense we are pretty well set for the foreseeable future. A lot of young talent there with Pohl, Lawrence, Chisholm, Pratt, Davis, and Hundley. johnnyzip84
In general, the priority should clearly go to defensive players. But before I could even begin to break the needs down in greater detail, I would want to know the status of the players from the 2012 class who (apparently) didn't qualify. It's my belief that some of these D-linemen could be big contributors in the future. I've asked this question before. GT, do you know the status of these guys? ZachTheZip
Also, remember that next year transfer senior CJ James will be eligible to play on the defensive line.
Ham
I wouldn't burn a schol on a LS. We have a Fr, Ziltz, red shirting. The same could be said about other needs. With a year of college ball under their belts, other newcomers could step up their game. I would stick to TB's plan, 3 OL, 3DL, 1 QB, & 8 potential play makers. Dr Z
I don't need to make a wish list, TB's philosophy is ballz on...get big boys on the lines and speed on the corners. Go get the best that fit your system.

Zipmeister
+1. Taking it back pretty far with that one! Whatever happened to Phil Tonga? Yes, way far back (almost a year). Don't have his 2011 stats handy, but am fairly sure he improved on his 2009 and 2010 performance. http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2011-12/bios/tonga_phil00 Note that Phil had a brother Danny who played at both Oregon and Oregon State. Interesting combination.

Interesting combination. Very interesting, indeed. At 6'4 and 280 pounds, I would think that he would have a place on our defensive line (at least in the secondary rotation). I remember how excited everyone on this board was about him; it's sad that he's fallen off the face of the earth.

Eh, if I recall correctly, there were a few more believers at the time. Not that it matters now. In the annals of Zips history, he will rank a few pegs lower than Ryan Bain (speaking of way old news...) on the list of failed "gets."
