jem101
This was just tweeted by Paul Warner @Zips Paul BREAKING: Major announcement regarding the @ZipsMSoc program coming this afternoon. #StayTuned I wonder if a decision has been made regarding the next coach of Akron Men's Soccer Team. Makes sense to me. Doesn't seem like there's any way they'd tweet out about a major announcement if it was anything else. Side note, @ZipsPaul is an outstanding follow. Great job by the marketing team setting these GAs up with twitter to follow the various sports.

bobbyake
very happy about this. I hope to see the same attacking style with a lot of returning players next year.

Soccershins
Very well deserved for Embick. No doubt Porter will be missed, especially in regards to recruiting. Hopefully Embick has picked up a thing or two from Porter Akron names assistant Jared Embick new head coach
Zip_ME87
I'm very happy for Jared, the entire coaching staff, and our team. GO ZIPS!
bobbyake
The Beacon states that Akron signed him to a 3 year contract with a base salary of $175k per year. After bonuses, he'll probably make over $200k a year. Not bad for a college soccer coach.
72 Roo
I'm happy. The beautiful game will continue at Akron and so will the recruiting pipeline. Jared was responsible for many of the recruits we got. Porter's charisma was an important factor but the fact is the recruits came for our style and the chance to go to the pros. We are in good hands and I am stunned that TW went this route. I thought he would go for the big name candidate. I've got to rethink my opinion of TW. ZippyRulz
http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2012-13/.../20121017s5f4vc "We have been well aware of Jared's qualities as a coach and after searching the country, we determined that he is the best fit for our program moving forward," Wistrcill said. "As our program's associate head coach, he has been a fundamental part of our success and a reason why we have been able to attract some of the best soccer players in the world. Furthermore, he is a firm believer in the style of play that has not only made The University of Akron unique around the country, but also one that has proven to win championships." * * * "Jared has been an invaluable member of my staff since I hired him as my right-hand man six years ago," Porter said. "Clearly, during this time he has played a major role in shaping the Akron Soccer program into what it is today – the nation's premier program in college soccer. What makes Akron soccer unique is the philosophy that we both share and I'm pleased to know that this brand will continue under Jared's guidance. "Ultimately, this philosophy is the reason why, for the past seven years, the program has won so many games, developed numerous professional players, secured the nation's top recruits, increased fan attendance and competed for national championships year in and year out. The future of the Akron Soccer Program is in good hands with Jared at the helm and I couldn't be happier with this decision."
TennZip
very happy with the timing of the selection and the choice.... Hopefully, Jared and Caleb can garner some excellent recruits in the next 2 months
skip-zip
I'll be interested to hear what transpired during the search process. I thought this was a rare opportunity for an Akron sport to go out and attract the best soccer coaches in the country. Maybe it didn't materialize quite that way. I do see the advantages of promoting from within. I wish him luck, and hope that he can energize a whole new era of fans.
yazan07
Still not absolutely convinced this decision makes sense from every angle, but Jared has nothing less than my absolute highest support.
Wally B
Great call... Embicks role in Porters recruitment program and player development lends well to a continuation of our success. There was no guaruntee that fresh blood wouldnt have upset the apple cart so to speak.
jem101
I looked up Embick's salary on http://www.buckeyeinstitute.org/higher-ed and he made almost $71,000 in 2010. Seems high for a college soccer assistant. I'm thinking that Embick probably has been tapped as Porter's replacement for a long time and they were paying him nearly HC money to keep him from accepting other positions. Just a hypothesis.
