Lee Owens completes undefeated season at Ashland

Congratulations to our former head coach, Lee Owens, who's Ashland Eagles completed an undefeated season yesterday by blowing out Notre Dame College 65-0. Also on staff at Ashland are former UA assistants Doug Geiser, Tom Stacy, and Mitch Browning, along with former Miami University head coach Tim Rose. If Owens makes a national championship run he could be looking at another shot at the FBS level, if he's even interested in that, which I doubt he is.

From D-II all the way to FBS ?? Because he was so succssful the last time he was given the reigns of a top level program?

Coaches fall down two levels and stay there for a decade for a reason. Enough said.

This will give Terry Pluto a great opportunity to write a comeback kid story mentioning about 3 or 4 times how young Owens still looks.

But, he'll never top the time he wrote about the great turnaround of Zips athletics, and the story appeared right next to the MAC All-Sports standings for that year, which showed both mens and womens sports ranked at or near the bottom.

Story? Don't you mean stories? Depending on how far Ashland goes into the playoffs, Pluto could have potentially a months worth of material.

Say what you will, but I believe that Winters would have been a good hire for this program for the long run. Let's make sure we see Terry light the world on fire before disregarding the other then-candidates for the job. Winters knew exactly what he would have been getting into here. He has spent his entire career in the grey, cold economically-challenged midwest. He would have known exactly how to build relationships with local coaches. He would have known exactly what local HS kids needed to hear to get them to commit to Akron. It remains to be seen how well Terry's persona sells in the midwest. He's as southern-fried as they come. How well is that going to work on the recruiting trail here? Will he be able to find enough leftovers in Florida to make it work?

After a 1 win season I'm done proclaiming Terry as the new King of Akron. I want to see him and The Chest do some recruiting.

I'm glad we didnt hire a guy who cant even win in D2 consistently. Give me the guy who shows a history of turning programs around, and winning everywhere he goes (who is also very familiar with the area) over a guy who had one dream season(record of 27-37 overall) in D2.

Thank you. You saved me alot of typing.

Bowden's coaching resume speaks for itself? Winters? Please.

The long awaited Terry Pluto "little engine that could" article.

I respectfully disagree. This is a Terry Pluto discussion with himself. Pluto sees himself as Owens. All of the quotes from Owens are what Pluto would have said in an interview with himself.
