Cubit led the Broncos to 29 wins from 2005 through 2008, the second best total over a four-season stretch in school history. Six of his players were selected in NFL drafts, including Green Bay Packers receiver Louis Delmas, Detroit safety Louis Delmas and Lions tight end Tony Scheffler.

Huh???

Bill Cubit out at WMU

He's the 1st victim of the MAC's 2012 success. He had pretty solid teams over the years, and of course he is a one-time Zip assistant. I wish him the best!

It's sad that other MAC schools are firing coaches with records like 51–47...and he had 4 wins this year, while we've only had 3 in the past 3 years....terrible. It's sad that I would love to have a coach with that record at Akron right now.

We fired a coach that has an overall record of 2-22.

We currently have a coach with a record of 141-72-2.

Get a clue!

Really Bowden has won 141 games at Akron so far? Damn that was quick, last time I checked he had 1. It's obviously not his fault, but those wins don't carry over to our record. That's not the way sports work. Like Terry Francona's WS titles don't automatically get transferred to the Indians now do they?

Ill keep my coach (as will UA) who has a proven record for turning programs around and taking them to the top. You can take your coach that has a history of making his program a bottom dweller in a mid-major conference.

I haven't given up on Bowden. Basically all I was saying was that at this point I would be happy with him having a .525 winning percentage with the Zips. But really even 2 wins next year would be good.

What? Seriously? I will not be satisfied with a two win season in 2013! :wall:

The plan as I understand it was 2 wins this year, and 4 next year. I'll give the team Miami as 'win' #2 this year, but I will not be satisfied with less than 4 REAL wins next year.

This coaching thread will become more interesting in the next few weeks. I'm not so interested in who is getting fired as much as I am interested in who will be offered a better job. I find it hard to believe the guy at K E N T will be around after this season. Jobs around Ohio may be plenty. For example, Kentucky either is or will be open....Louisville's coach has done a great job and has ties to the SEC so he should be an attractive candidate for Auburn. Louisville is a ready made program for the guy from K E N T and he should jump at it. Solich...probably not going anywhere.

Hard to see the future with the cloud of the Dark Side of failure hanging over the losing teams. Once terminations are made, more will be revealed.

This goes beyond the MAC, but there have been numerous HC firings/retirements over the last few days. These schools are all looking:

Purdue

NC State

Arkansas

Auburn

Georgia St

Boston College

Colorado

This makes me wonder a couple of things:

1) Will MAC coaches like Hazell be swooped up very soon?

2) Now than Spazano is out at BC, can the Zips change the mind of that WR from St Clairsville?

3) Where will JD Brookhart land?

Good post JZ84. Let's throw in Kentucky and Tennessee. I think Tennessee will play a key part in what happens to Hazell.

There will also be BCS level coaches who leave to take one of these jobs. I could easily see the guy at Louisville take the job at Tennessee. The Auburn job is a dead end with NCAA sanctions coming down the pike.

Hazell would be best served to take the L'Ville job IF it comes open. It is close enough to Ohio to take advantage of his recruiting base. It also provides a ready made good team with a QB who will be a junior season with two years starting under his belt. L'Ville can be a springboard to a better job as evidenced by the existing coach. Purdue is a career killer for coaches and Hazell should stay away from it.

I have a brother who is close with staff members at OSU. The word is the kid from St. Clairsville will play at the BCS level and it is only a matter of where. The more coaches see him play, they more they like what they see. Tons of athletic talent, good hands, good intellect, an air of confidence that is needed in the big time and lots of potential. Probably not high level BCS like the SEC or PacWhatever or Big Whatever, but the Big Ten, ACC or Big East wouldn't be out of the question. I don't see him going to a MAC school.

JD will land wherever he wants to coach and with who will have him. JD doesn't really need to work so he takes time off and lands in places he wants to work. Colorado was one of those draws for him since he grew up there. I don't see a gloomy midwestern city as a stop for JD.

Peter King's top five college coaching candidates for NFL head coaching jobs, per chats with front office people in the last two weeks (in order):

1. Chip Kelly, Oregon

2. David Shaw, Stanford

3. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame

4. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa (even coming off the bad season at Iowa, he's well-respected in the NFL)

5. Doug Marrone, Syracuse.

Didn't include Bill O'Brien of PSUe because I can't see him preaching love of, and loyalty to, PSU, and then leaving after 12 months.

Honestly I don't think any of them would really be successful in NFL.

After watching him play on Friday, I think the guy can play on any college team in the country. Man was he impressive!!

I'll be watching the game this Friday on Direct TV.

Make the trip to Fawcett Stadium!

I am. It's just going to be by way of Direct TV.

I made a vow to go to Ohio in the winter under four conditions:

1. Death in the family.

2. Christmas every other year (doesn't even take me to Akron).

3. Zips playing in MAC Championship

4. Zips playing in Motor City Bowl or whatever they call it now.

The Great GP1 has a 3:00 appointment on Friday with the television, a 6:30 appointment with the luckiest woman in the world, Mrs. GP1, at Ruth's Chris in downtown Charlotte and a 7:30 appointment at the Charlotte Symphony for a Christmas concert. Followed on Saturday with an appointment with the ACC Championship game at BOA.

I take it you guys at talking about #9 Monteroso. His biggest offers are BC and Iowa, to my knowledge and he is committed to BC.

He isnt even the highest recruited person on his team. #10, Michael Ferns has overs from big time programs all over the country. He is currently committed to Michigan.

How much would you be willing to bet that Monteroso ends up at a bigger school than Ferns? The best thing to happen to this Monteroso kid is the BC coach getting fired. It is his first lesson in understanding the business side of college athletics and can open up doors for him he may have shut by his own doing.

Lots of kids get offers from big time programs during their junior seasons only to not have a piece of paper land in front of them on signing day from a BCS school. Young kids these days make a big mistake in committing to a school entirely too early in their high school years. Most fans don't realize that a verbal commitment to a school holds a much weight as marrying your high school girlfriend by giving her your varsity jacket. It's easy for both parties to walk away from that commitment.

Ferns has offers from ND, Michigan, Penn State, OSU, Stanford etc, etc. Hard for me to believe it is possible to land at a bigger school than those mentioned.

I could see definitely see Monteroso getting a better offer, even though it is a little late. Especially with what he has done in the playoffs.

Both are tough players, talented, and great kids. I am from the area, so I plan to go to Fawcett and watch Friday.

Are any of them in writing with a line to sign that would make it a contract to provide a scholarship?

There are offers and there are offers...

Im aware. I'm also aware that he was receiving these offers based on potential (size and speed) instead of what he really did on the field. Im also aware that these offers normally arent revoked unless the kid gets into trouble. He will end up at a big time program.
