2013 Basketball Tournament

Hopefully whichever they choose has the same format as this years. Not the fixed tournaments that never let the smaller schools make the championship.

or...we can pull an OhioU and skip the tourneys altogether, play 7 cupcakes to start the season, and then brag about it.

Quite true, stay away from those tournaments where the semifinalists are not based on performance. That is, of course, unless the Zips are a guaranteed semifinalist and will meet two high-major opponents.

Something I didn't realize was that all of OU's "tournament" games were home games. All six of their wins were home games and they just played their first road game and one guy beat them. Somebody named Robert Morris. :) Thats going to make their RPI drop. I am a little confused by Ken Pomeroy, though, OU is 6-1 with the 292nd ranked schedule and is at #36. WMU is also 6-1 with the 305th ranked schedule and is ranked 195th. Akron has had the toughest schedule in the MAC (#74, Buffalo is next closest at 92. The MAC SOS is awful many teams at 200 and above, that also hurts the league). The Creighton game should be really interesting. C'mon Zips a little soccer payback would be nice.

OU started high on Pomeroy based on his analysis of their strength from last season and returning all players. As with all RPI-like formulas, the early season rankings are not nearly as accurate as the later season rankings, which are more based on performance of the current team and the relative strengths of teams they've played. It's all kind of a semi-educated guessing game, with the guesses getting more accurate as more actual data replaces initial estimates.

I am not sure why do some of our fans enjoy knocking down other MAC teams. We complain about the weakness of our schedule and the RPI killer that is the MAC west stretch, yet we root for MAC teams to loose in their OOC schedule and achieve a lower RPI.

I personally root for every single MAC team to win all their OOC games and I hope that OHIO and Can't are ranked #1 and #2 by the time we play them. This only makes beating them so much more rewarding.

Thank you. We often want our cake and to eat it too.

Please see troll posts earlier in the threads and perhaps you can understand this one particular instance.

MDZip, you're missing the whole point my friend. I am not rooting for the bobcats/flashes etc. in their OOC schedule because I like them or because I respect their fans. I am rooting for them because that's in the best interest of MY ZIPS. I will not stop rooting for my team's best interest just because some of the bobcats' fans are trolls.

@Ada Zip, I'm with you. Anything that's best for the Zips trumps any desire I have to see the Zips' biggest rivals fail. Would have been great for the Zips to have OU come into their first game undefeated and ranked in the top 25, and have the Zips blow them out.

And, speaking of OU's second loss, their old coach has Illini fans all excited. Illinois under Groce is off to a 9-0 start and ranked #13 in the AP top 25. The first big test comes Saturday when the Illini visit Gonzaga, also off to a 9-0 start and ranked #10. As the season goes on, we'll see how much of OU's previous success was due to Groce and how much to the players.

I agree in rooting for other MAC teams to do well, particularily in the OCC. As of right now, the MAC is stubbing it's toe again in the OCC and I think that unless the Zips beat Creighton Sunday and Detroit next Sunday, it will come down to having to win the MAC tourney to go dancing. OU's schedule is too weak, IMO, to garner support for a two team appearance at this years dance. The NCAA choosing to punish the players as opposed to the administration over the eligibilty paperwork was inexplicable to me. The two losses to CC and Oklahoma State would have been win's with a full roster but that's in the past.

Opprotunity awaits in Omaha and Detroit.

Let's go Zips!
