Barson ready if called to action against Red Bulls (Homegrown could get nod with shortage in backline)

Less than a week after his first taste of professional soccer, Crew rookie defender and Homegrown Player Chad Barson could be next in line to start along the Black & Gold backline against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday (5:00 p.m. ET / UniMas, FOX Sports Ohio). ...

Nice article on Aodhan Quinn's development via the Sounders U23 site.

The one thing that jumped out at me, is did any of you guys realize that Aodhan's dad was an MLS coach? In fact, he actually coached San Jose when they drafted a midfielder by the name of Caleb Porter. You all might be familiar with him. I was blown away by this. How have I never heard of that?

I knew Brian Quinn was a soccer coach but didn't know he had coached an MLS team until about 8 months or so ago. I first discovered that he was the coach of the San Jose Clash who drafted Caleb Porter when I was searching the internet last year trying to find the number that Caleb wore in college. I, too, thought it was an interesting connection and mentioned it to some of my friends who also follow Zips Mens Soccer. They didn't know until I mentioned it.

By the way, that's a great and well-deserved article about Aodhan. I'm glad he made the transfer to Akron from Bradley.

Anyone remember the MISL, Major Indoor Soccer League?

The flagship franchise was the Cleveland Force, who could not win a championship because of the San Diego Sockers.

Brian Quinn was an integral member of those great Sockers teams.

Ben Zemanski scored his first goal last night for Portland.

Alas, Portland led 2-0 after 60 minutes but had to settle for a 2-2 draw

Video of the game from the Timbers. Third video screen down to second PDX goal. Ben surprised the defense (or they forgot him) with a late run down the middle, and slotted the pelota perfectly inside the right post. That's his third career score, after two with Chivas. Too bad they allowed two late goals for another draw. This team should be in first.

Also, I'm wearing my Cleveland Force shirt today, nice to read about them and Brian Quinn above. I think Brian is still director of the San Diego Surf FC, que no? All I remember of the Sockers was the irrepressible and unstoppable Stevie Zungul. Kai Haaskivi I think also played in SD after leaving Cleveland. Kai still working for Adidas?

Voting for the MLS all-star game against AS Roma opened today. Among the candidates eligible for voting are Nagbe, Sarkodie, Yedlin, and Kitchen. I voted for all four, and I could definitely see DeAndre getting voted in with the huge Sounders fanbase as well as the hype surrounding him right now. I also think Darlington has a good shot, he's been playing very well this year. Kofi probably has more of an outside chance, and I don't see Perry, or anyone from DC United getting picked.

Also, take a look at this article, haha

Hey, they left Chad Barson, Teal Bunbury, Scott Caldwell, Chris Korb, and David Meves off the Akron Zips XI.

Take Ben Speas away; he defected to UNC.

Caldwell is first off the bench. Ubiparipovic can sub anywhere. Bunbury is rehabing. Meves is backup GK.

Akron could win the MLS.

Teal Bunbury made his first appearance this evening in a 1-0 loss to Orlando City SC in US Open Cup. Came off the bench in the 76'

I guess Sporting KC will not be repeating as US Open Cup Champions. Oops!

Was anyone following the hoopla leading up to this game? Orlando City has been KC's USL affiliate this year, and one of the players KC loaned Orlando has been lighting it up this year for them, I think he's had something like 15 goals in 13 appearances. Well, anyway when these two teams were to face each other in Open Cup play (something that wasn't expected to happen when the loan program was developed) there was a debate as to whether or not KC would let him play. Of course, they didn't, but I guess Orlando maybe had a chip on their shoulder and managed to get the win anyway. Probably didn't hurt that Zusi and Besler are with the national team.

10 Uncapped Yanks Who Could Go to the World Cup. Nice mentions for Sarkodie and Yedlin.

Kofi Sarkodie - (Top 10) Klinsmann loves an overlapping fullback, and the 22-year-old Houston right back can barely contain his passion for going past the halfway line. With Steve Cherundolo and Timmy Chandler dealing with injuries and Brad Evans having a shaky grip on the #2 jersey, Sarkodie could still make a late run—so to speak—for the spot. Or at least a backup spot.

DeAndre Yedlin - (Just Missed Out) could both provide a wacky-haired alternative to Sarkodie at right back.
