Cincinnati Pulls offers

Cincinnati recruits: Tuberville pulled scholarships without enough notice

Last week, the head coach of noted Massillon (Ohio) High, Jason Hall, told a local paper last week that Tuberville would be effectively banned from recruiting Massillon players after he reportedly pulled a scholarship offer from quarterback Kyle Kempt. In Ohio, that's no trifling matter: Since Hall arrived in 2008, Washington has produced six FBS signees, including current Ohio State starter Devin Smith, and is expected to add three more to that list this year, including Kempt.

"It was an ugly situation," said Hall, who also serves as the school's athletic director. "I think they thought [Kempt] was going to go to Tennessee with Butch Jones and they offered another quarterback. But that wasn't the case. Cincinnati will not be allowed back in Massillon on our campus as long as Jason Hall is in Massillon."

The Massillon coach is an idiot on a couple of levels. First, when the coaching change was made, he should have informed his player of the potential risks to his scholarship when a coaching change is made. Secondly, never say never. If Cincy is a fit for a kid, the kid should have every opportunity to explore that possibility without his high school coach getting in the way.

Here is what I would do if I was a coach for Cincy and wanted to talk to a kid a Massillon. Contact him another way beyond his high school coach. Call the parents directly or whatever you need to do to reach the kid, but find a way to talk to one. Don't let an idiot high school football coach decide for the kid.

Lastly, high school coaches really need to sit down with their players and encourage them not to commit to a school until all possibilities are explored. Too many kids are "verbally" committing to schools at entirely too young of ages. The final commitment should not be made until official visits are completed. It's all short sighted and stupid to commit to a school in 10th grade like some are doing now. Just stupid.

Listened to the Joe Dunn radio show on the way home and apparently three of these kids have now signed with K.e.n.t. 6' 3" WR a TE and one other. Unless of course I misunderstood.

If they want to go to a program that will fall back into irrelevancy, let them. I only want players who want to come here and be apart of something special. Turning around one of the worst programs in D1 into a premiere MAC program.

Enjoy Can't!

@LZip I think you're delusional if you think our program is as attractive as Can't's program now. We've had three wins in the last three seasons. Can't has had more wins than that in October and November each (4) last year. It is so very sad but true. TB has a terribly difficult sales job to do here in Akron. I really feel Tom Wistricill's damage with the football program is far beyond any success he has managed at Akron. The complete failure of our most high profile sport is pathetic.

As for Jason Hall I think it is important to note he is the AD at Massillon. I'm guessing he is trying to protect his athletes and he has had the conversations GP1 is suggesting he has with this athletes. I also believe if the coach at Cincy wants to come and have a conversation with him this will all be water under the bridge. I don't know Jason but from what I've seen of him he is not has half cocked as this article suggests.

Based on last season, no, Akron is not a better location. I am smart enough to look at the future instead of what happened last season, however. Cant had a dream season. So naturally more kids are going to want to come to Can't. What these kids dont know is that Can't is normally a horrendous D-1 program. Lets face it, these Massilon kids probably never heard of Can't before Hazell.

This reminds me of Auburn a few years ago after winning the NC by sending a nice sum to Ca$h Newton. They pulled in a top recruiting class just because Auburn was the "flavor of the month", and now Auburn is the worst team in the SEC, maybe on of the worst AQs.

Like I said, I only want kids that want to be a part of something special. Kids that have a vision and are dedicated. Ill enjoy beating those kids at Cant at minimum, 3 of the next 4 years (assuming Bowden is here).
