RootforRoo44
Not arrogance. Belmont is ranked #18 in the RPI. They're the best team Ohio will face all season, and Belmont will be angry. I agree...Belmont is tough. I would love to switch places with OU right now.
Dave in Green
Zips get a quality opponent and Kitties are rewarded for last season's Sweet 16 run. Sounds about right to me. But it's not so swell for every BracketBusters road team currently ranked higher than the Kitties who have better credentials this season and think they've just been screwed. OZoner
I hear Ohio does well in Nashville... But I think this is a good draw for you. If nothing else, you get to see Nate Wolters, one of the country's most exciting players, in person. The return trip won't help you much, though, as they'll have graduated their key pieces. ZachTheZip
http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...gs_has_akr.html Akron Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill confirmed that Akron had requested to play a road BracketBusters game. But while Akron coach Keith Dambrot may well have caught the attention of national college pundits with his wish to go on the road, internally there was not much traction. "It was a quick discussion, but not something we pushed hard for," Wistrcill said, adding that he preferred keeping the home game against a good opponent for the fans. Tom, I'm sure that the fans would rather see an Akron team that is in the discussion for an at-large bid than a team that's not in the discussion but does have a home game against NDSU. They hold zero name value, so while their RPI and record qualify as good, it doesn't connect in the minds of the fans you are trying to appease. Besides, we were getting a TV game either way, so the fans could watch even if we went on the road.

Dave in Green
If you get past RPI and look at a more sophisticated ranking system like Pomeroy, North Dakota State is a great opponent for the Zips. While the Zips are currently a healthy #42 on Pomeroy, ND State is even better at #34. Pomeroy ranks the Zips ahead on adjusted offense (#36 vs. #79), but ND State leads in adjusted defense (#26 vs. #58). It will be a tougher game than any MAC matchup outside of perhaps OU in Athens. Another great thing about ND State is that they have only 2 seniors on the roster, and neither plays double-digit minutes. So the Zips will be facing essentially the same team next season, when ND State should be even better and will make a tough road challenge that would be a quality road win. The more I look at this matchup, the more I like it.

Zeke is #1 in FG% and Marshall is #2." Here is the link for the stats on espn http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...tat/field-goals
BisonBohl
Greetings Zip Nation, Looking forward to this game, glad we got a primetime spot on ESPN 2 on Friday Night to kickoff this BrackBuster. We have a pretty solid mid major team. We are very tough defensively and while not flashy but very efficient offensively. We are currently without our best player Taylor Braun who broke a bone his foot earlier this season. It is possible he could be back for this game, that was his goal but we will have to see how that develops.

johnnyzip84
PD coverage from EA Akron Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill confirmed that Akron had requested to play a road BracketBusters game. I have no complaints whatsoever with this matchup. NDSU has quality athletic teams in several sports. I've been saying for a while that they should be on the radar for MAC expansion, if the Bison ever wanted to go FBS.
Dave in Green
Bjorklund is a 6-8, 240-pound junior forward who's the leading rebounder, second leading scorer, and third leading blocker on the Bison. I wonder what his shooting percentage is when playing against someone like Zeke or Tree? Anyway, here's how Zeke, Tree and Bjorklund match up statistically. johnnyzip84
In the interest of providing a welcome environment for our future foes, let's make sure to call them by their correct sports nickname. It's the Bison.. After all, the ESPNU dude just called us the Zags (although, that's not all bad if you think about it ) Anyway, welcome to ZnO, Bison fans The Zips are tall, deep, and seem to be hitting their stride of late. UA rotates 10 or 11 players although the starting 5, Treadwell, Abreu, Harney, and Marshall in particular, have been getting more minutes in recent games. Harney is a gifted athlete who has been improving his defense and rebounding of late. Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell has an NBA body, rebounds with a fury, and has developed a nice touch from 10-15 feet. Always a gamechanger on defense, Zeke has blossomed into a force on both ends this year. In my opinion, the most important player in PG Alex Abreu. He's smart, tough, competetive and sneaky quick. He also hit big shots. The 2 guard spot has a lot of depth and often the hot player (Walsh, McAdams, Gilliam) is contributing there. We also have a high quality backup center in 6'11" Pat Forythe, a transfer from WVU. Looking forward to the matchup with a quality foe!
GJGood
Love the matchup but despise the time slot. I have been to every home Bracketbusters game since the inception of the event but living two hours away and having to work that day makes Friday at 7:00 difficult. I'd like it for a road TV game but not a home one. Still, I can't complain about the game and the fact that they want to showcase us in prime time. Dave in Green
I just corrected my "Bisons" after checking and learning that the plural for any bison is ..... bison. ming01
Nation's #1 (Zeke) and #2 (Bjorklund) FG% players facing off? This is going to be fun. Actually, what I want to know is how many players of Zeke's height has Bjorklund faced against? Could Zeke put a dent in his FG%? bjorklund had 16 pts 6 rebounds vs indiana. 14 pts 7 rebounds vs Green Bay (they have a 7 footer whos projected 2nd round next season) and 12 pts 6 rebounds vs minnesota
Valpo Zip
Akron's weak point is now that they don't have a quality road win. Our best road win is @ Can't state (192 RPI). Other than that, we lost to Detroit and CCU university. In order to overcome that, we need OU to beat Belmont so that we MAY have a quality road win IF we beat them in Athens. If that happens, together with a win against NDSU and 16-0 in the MAC, we can start thinking about an at large bid. ... So, there is a chance. Blue & Gold
How bout we. Stop worrying about an at large bid and worry about winning the Macc Personally, I enjoy worrying about an at-large bid. It makes the regular season more meaningful for me. I also love being in the Top 25 conversation. I say, sure, we'll worry about winning the MACC... when we cross that bridge. But for right now, lets try to put ourselves in the best position to make the tourney regardless. The MACC is always nerve-wracking for me. The ball doesn't always bounce your way; you might lay an egg; your opponent may get incredibly hot; there are so many ways you can lose a single game to a team you'd beat 9-out-of-10 times. Which is why, as an aside, I still don't think we'll go undefeated in the conference. I'm expecting us to drop one.
Dave in Green
Thinking about having the best possible record is not only about an at-large bid. It's also about having the best possible body of work to impress the selection committee into awarding the Zips a higher seed. If the Zips were to win out from here, including the MAC championship, they could be rewarded with an impressively high seed.
