I told him what to do. Dambrot told him what to do. Wistercill told both of us "no."

Yet another blunder. The safety net of having the NDSU game doesn't make it look so bad, but he sold the fans and the team short. What a story it could have been to see the Zips eschew a home game to play a marquee mid-major on the road. If you can fathom it, it would have been bigger than a Twitter hash tag.

bjorklund had 16 pts 6 rebounds vs indiana. 14 pts 7 rebounds vs Green Bay (they have a 7 footer whos projected 2nd round next season) and 12 pts 6 rebounds vs minnesota

Thanks for the numbers. I see that Bjorklund was 5-10 from the field against Cody Zeller and 7-12 against Alec Brown, both 7-footers projected to be NBA draft choices. He was also 5-8 against Minnesota's Trevor Mbakwe, another projected NBA draft pick. So Bjorklund appears to be for real. Zeke really likes this kind of challenge. Should be a great game.

Thats false. The MAC denied it, not the AD. Cant pass up any and every opportunity to throw the AD under the bus, though!

From Elton's article in today's PD

Akron Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill confirmed that Akron had requested to play a road BracketBusters game. But while Akron coach Keith Dambrot may well have caught the attention of national college pundits with his wish to go on the road, internally there was not much traction.

"It was a quick discussion, but not something we pushed hard for," Wistrcill said, adding that he preferred keeping the home game against a good opponent for the fans.

Am I missing something? The article CLEARY states AKRON requested an away game. Just because Wistrcill said he preferred keeping the game home and "didnt push hard for it" doesnt change the fact that it was THE MAC who said no (the link I posted clearly states that as well). Keep pushing agendas, though.

What good is an AD if he doesn't fight for what a coach would like?

I agree. Just pointing out the wrong belief that the AD didnt shut the idea down, our lackluster conference who has only had 1 bid for the past 13 years did. To be honest, I am not sure how you, I, or anybody here knows what more he could have done than request it.

This is the only thing you're missing:

No axe to grind and/or ulterior motive for me. Just get tired of people blaming the guy for everything, and even making up things to blame him for. Yeah, he messed up and hired Ianello. But he also signed Caleb Porter long, hired the replacement everybody wanted, signed KD long-term (highest paid coach in the MAC), and hired Terry Bowden (former coach of the year), hired a Tennis coach who has won back to back MAC championships, and a baseball coach who is supposedly good.

Just think, though...We could have gotten Fickell if we didnt hire Ianello

Allowing one team to switch to suit its own purposes would be opening Pandora's Box, with every other team crying "favoritism!" It was never going to happen even if UA offered to bribe someone with cash. The Zips got publicity out of this, same as they got publicity with the uniform issue. Kudos to everyone at UA who participated in taking something that was never going to happen and making it into a national story. That's two-for-two now, first with the uniforms and now this.

There wouldn't be any fallout because this is the last Bracketbuster. There's no worry about letting teams do this in the future. Besides, it's clear from some of the match-ups that ESPN didn't really care about this thing anyway.

I don't like people blaming him for everything either. I just blame him for most things that seem to go wrong because he always seems to be at the center of bad decision making. Reminds me of an old saying, "Criticism is the price of leadership." Allow me to add to your post above by rewriting it a little starting from "Yeah".

Yeah, absolutely destroyed the football program and Dr. Proenza's vision for making the Big Dialer the centerpiece of activity on campus by hiring a complete incompetent in Ianello. I guess birds of a feather do flock together. But he also signed Caleb Porter in an obvious move and allowed Porter to help him not make a huge mistake again by assisting TW in the hiring of the next soccer coach, signed KD long-term and gave him a raise even though he had not serious offers and is isn't going anywhere because he isn't that attractive of a candidate to any decent school, and hired TB after botching the Winters Affair when TB threw himself at UofA, hired a Tennis coach who has won back to back MAC Championships, and a baseball coach who is supposedly good even though we don't see the results.

An obvious blunder of great magnitude. No one else has ever made such a great mistake.

But he also signed Caleb Porter in an obvious move and allowed Porter to help him not make a huge mistake again by assisting TW in the hiring of the next soccer coach,

also let Caleb weasel out of his commitment to the University. How unfair to the loyal fans to NOT hold Porter's feet

to the contract fire.

signed KD long-term and gave him a raise even though he had not serious offers and is isn't going anywhere because he isn't that attractive of a candidate to any decent school,

How little you know. Ooops, I suppose that I am way too close to the men's basketball program. Have you considered

what KD's stock is worth now? Is it always all about the money and the ego (see: Caleb Porter)?

and hired TB after botching the Winters Affair when TB threw himself at UofA,

No one botched the "Winters affair". Again, being a poster on ZipsNation only makes one poster, not an inside source.

hired a Tennis coach who has won back to back MAC Championships,

Nice hire.

and a baseball coach who is supposedly good even though we don't see the results.

Results? How soon does the coach have to produce "results" to satisfy YOU?

And, yeah, I like Tom Wistrcill and respect him because I actually know the man personally. I am not bloviating from

six hundred miles away.

No. Just...no.

Porter wants to coach soccer at the highest level. He stayed at UA longer than any fan could have expected. We should be proud that we sent a coach up the ladder and not just to another university.

I think you might be right on your rationale that TW didn't blow the Winters hire. If I recall correctly, someone bloviated on our site a bunch of BS that caused Winters' daughter to create a ZN.o account exclusively to rebutt that BS. I'm sure she put a bug in her dad's ear to reject UA in large part to that person's post. She was pretty pissed. Caused someone to get banned, if I recall correctly?

I will lock this thread and begin a new BracketBuster thread. I like talking basketball.
