Quickzips
And nothing against you, but this REALLY pisses me off. You dont know how other players are going to step up. Hell, neither do I. But we can still support them! If you dont have any faith, please dont come to the game. This team is deep. This team is deep at every position except one. PG. The vast majority of this forum has seen it and commented on it all year. I appreciate your optimism. I really do, but this isn't a Disney movie where the understudy comes in and lights up the show when the team needs him most. At this point in the year, players are who they are. Betancourt is a decent freshman backup PG who plays pretty good defense on the perimeter but turns the ball over a little too much (as freshmen are apt to do) and has nothing resembling a D-I shot. Find me one guy on this roster that you are comfortable having play 30 minutes a night at PG and I'll buy into the idea that we are going to be ok. I won't be holding my breath. akronzips71
After this season I bet Coach D leaves. Any beats? You really need to chill out. One player has been arrested. He has not even been formally charged yet, that happens in Court tomorrow. For all any of us knows, he might walk scott free in the morning. Being arrested is proof of only one thing: He got arrested. Period.
Derrt
Might want to check the Akron Municipal Court records. How about you check it and get back to me.
tbozeglav
After this season I bet Coach D leaves. Any bets? that might be the dumbest thing I've heard someone say. Not like the University hasn't dealt with players getting in trouble like this before... Let alone Coach D.
Districtballer
After this season I bet Coach D leaves. Any bets? I've heard from pretty good sources that there is some interest in the ODU job. Not sure how this news affects that. It's a really good job and would have him playing Shaka every year as they're our big rival. Fully assuming this post gets deleted, but that is genuinely something I have heard from a source I trust.

Hilltopper
Yeah. I had hoped the new Firestone technical complex would help, but the ghetto is creeping in from the west and north. Zach, that neighborhood is certainly not the suburbs, but it is far, far from the "Ghetto". I grew up there, my paper route as a child included E Dartmore and my sister in law lives one street over. I repeat, it is not the ghetto.

You usually show more class than that. Right now this is not a scandal. Joe Paterno has not risen from the dead. One player got arrested. Under what may me some strange circumstances. Even assuming, for the sake of this discussion, that he is guilty as charged, he is responsible for his own conduct. He is 21 years old. An adult. His choices, his consequences. Genuinely did hear that though. This is a tough time and I wish Coach D and the program the best.

I agree that a win in the NCAA against a much higher seed is going to be nearly impossible. Sweet Sixteen was always just a dream though. Possible, but a lot of fantasy too. However, just getting to the tournament now is a HUGE challenge, but definitly not impossible. We could see these kids rise and play their best ball of the season. Salvaging the MAC Chamionship would be spectacular now. That's what I choose to focus on.

you am i
Im far from an expert in this, but AA has been charged with 3rd degree felony in trafficking AND drug abuse. Doesnt drug abuse mean he was using the drug???? A drug abuse charge alleges that the defendant possessed drugs for personal use. A trafficking charge alleges that the defendant possessed drugs with an intent to distribute. A large amount of drugs in a person's possession, typically more than one person could reasonably have for personal consumption, gives rise to a presumption that the drugs were for further distribution. When you have four pounds of marijuana in your possession, it pretty much speaks for itself. We don't now the facts, but it seems like a bit of an over-charge. I think that people are usually charged with either drug abuse OR trafficking.
taxpayer
I pray that somehow this story isn't as bad as it sounds tonight. This team has been through a lot this year. This is another opportunity to demonstrate that adversity makes you stronger. Walsh has been gutting it out the last 3 games on one leg so look for Melo to get the start and several guys to alternate at the point. There is some strong character on this team and look for them to draw together tomorrow which will be even more emotional than originally anticipated. Go Zips! ZachTheZip
Doing some social media digging, no other Akron player aside from Abreu has any connections (at least in public) to the owner of the house where the incident took place. bUAkronG
not that it matters, but Dartmore is 2 streets from my house, and I would not consider this area ghetto. Count me in as curious to see how the team responds. I am not happy about this, but the team has a chance to rise up and win tomorrow and next friday. The ball is in our court tomorrow, both literally and figuratively. Let's get it done. Go Zips!

LOL you didn't look at the date huh? This was when Q got arrested by the crooked Akron police on Thanksgiving. All charges were dropped. He was racially profiled leaving a store. Police stopped him because he looked like a suspect who had been robbing apartments in the area. The family should have sued.

Maybe they can do so. Maybe they were packaging it into dime bags when the Police came calling. I guess we will find out. I had a room mate once at UA who was probably the biggest pot dealer on campus. I was really paranoid, and got out of that house as quick as I could. If they had gone after him, I would have probably been caught up in it. And I had nothing to do with it.

I've definitely lost respect for a few people on this forum tonight. People are emotional. That's understandable. However, I keep imagining guest viewers from around the MAC, around the country, looking at this forum and thinking how ignorant or stupid people in Akron must be. It's embarrassing. dre22era
Shouldn't that only be if you're the sender? In general If the drugs cross state lines or are placed in the US Mail, then it becomes a matter under federal jurisdiction. It should be a federal offense because the U.S. postal service was used to ship an illegal substance. The postal service is a federal entity. Yes, even if he is the receiver he can be charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and using the US Mail to further the criminal activity. There are multiple ways the charged could be filed though, depending upon the prosecutor. The crimes can be charged in either or both State and Federal courts.
