skip-zip
Could we have been a solid single-digit seed in the NCAA tourney last year with Q in the lineup? I say YES. We can only hope that he'll be just as big of an addition to a team with some holes to fill in 2013-2014. I believe what Keith has said, that he is possibly one of the best players in the MAC. Welcome back Q. We need you. You are a necessary addition this year if we are to keep pushing forward as a program with some national prominence. Go undefeated (and have a few quality top 50 opponents) and maybe, just maybe. Even then not likely. MAC teams do not get single digit seeds. A couple of people on here who yearly predict that we will be a Sweet 16 team will be all over you for that response. Although we can debate the chances of the MAC ever being a multiple-bid conference again, the single-digit seed is very attainable.

Not only is a single-digit seed possible for the Zips, given just a few dozen tragic bus accidents it is highly likely.

As for Quincy Diggs, I know he has talent. Think he can be good in the much-needed sixth-man role this year. See you in the isles, come December. As for Quincy Diggs, I know he has talent. Think he can be good in the much-needed sixth-man role this year. See you in the isles, come December. The Zips do need a sixth man, badly. However, because they are so deep at most positions a "sixth man" may be a bit easier to find than one would normally expect. However, I personally do not believe it will be Quincy. Not that I would object. As Quincy already proved he is a great sixth man. Yet, his senior status and past performances coupled with an opening at the shooting guard thanks to Brian Walsh graduating seems to open that opportunity for Quincy. He deserves the starting two guard position provided he earns it. I think that slot is his for the taking. Quincy did need more outside shooting range. If he has improved his outside shooting and ball handling skills he will excel. Q has the heart, the athleticism, the drive to the basket, the rebounding, the quicks. Think he will actually make the two hole better than last season. My prime candidate for the "sixth man", Reggie McAdams.
UAZip0510
Interesting note: Many have made jokes about Quincy since the news was announced - calling him a woman beater, saying Dambrot doesn't run a respectable program, etc. As you can guess, many of these tweets are coming from Athens. Quincy's response? Nothing...kind of. He hasn't replied to a single negative tweet or responded to them generally. But he has "favorited" many of them. For those unfamiliar with Twitter, favoriting a tweet basically allows you to save it for yourself. Just a guess, but I'm thinking Quincy is saving these for added motivation. I'm predicting the best Q we've ever seen -motivated, energized, and playing with chip on his shoulder. And I'd expect two huge games against OU. However, because they are so deep at most positions a "sixth man" may be a bit easier to find than one would normally expect. I think that's what will be so tough about this team - most teams want a sixth man to help energize them, but Keith can trot out so many lineup combinations, it almost doesn't matter for him. Akron will run at least 10 deep again, and regardless of who the starting 5 are, many are going to get good minutes. Kind of like last year - someone is going to get hot but the other team has no idea who, so how do you gameplan for it?

Jake is the best pure shooter we've had in recent years -- though Reggie has a similar reputation. If the '3' spot is the shooter on the team -- and that's 90% of Jake's game -- does than essentially mean we're playing a 3-guard set? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Perhaps Quincy would be playing the "slasher", while Jake (and-or-Reggie) is at the "set shooter" or "3-Point Specialist" position. I just hope we have a playmaker to get them the pelota. Dave in Green
The Zips coaching staff has said that there is not a big difference in the roles of the 2 and 3 positions in the team's system. Most of the Zips' small forwards and shooting guards can be interchangeable wings in the Zips system. The best 6th men can usually play more than two positions, adding the 1 and/or 4 positions to the 2/3.
GoZips
Quincy just might be the sixth man. The coaches want him to develop more point guard skills. With these skills and moving Q into the one slot the team can put a really big line up on the floor. Q can do this even if he starts at the two. I chatted with Tree today. He better stop taking his vitamins. Tree is positively huge (and tall). While listed at six-seven I would put Tree at six-nine or even six-ten. He looks to be in great shape. Ready to play shape. I love his infectious smile and easy manner. Dr Jekyll becomes Mr. Hyde on the court. I mentioned to Tree that he needs to buy forty pairs of socks for next season. The Hawai'i trip is slowing developing. Travel dates with options under consideration. An all out attempt to provide a range of accommodations being worked on. You should be able to arrive early or stay longer and still be part of the travel group. Cannot tell you who the first game after the Hawai'i trip is; but it is a home game that has been bought. Yes, that means I know who the opponent is. I just cannot reveal who it is at this time. Also, unofficially heard that a travel package to the Central Florida football game is being worked out. I have to believe the most likely scenario for Quincy has him starting at the 2 guard. Maybe not right away. It could take a couple of games for him to blow off the rust, but I think he will get there eventually. He has proven he can handle the 6th man role in the past, and I would have no problem with him playing it, but we have so many question marks at the guard spots going into next year that I would really rather see him in the starting lineup. As for playing him at PG, I am on record here in other threads that I don't like the idea of doing it for more than 5-10 minutes per night. Just because he can do it, doesn't mean it is the best situation for him or for the team. Frankly, if we are having to play him 20, 25, 30 minutes a night at PG we are in big trouble as it means that neither Betancourt nor Evans is panning out. I would like some verification that he is that tall. At 6"10" with his skills and determination he is NBA material for sure. AND that would give us a gigantic lineup with PF at 6'11" And Johnson supposedly around 6'9"
akronzips71
And let's remember that Tree also turns into Mr. Hyde when he has too much to drink. I hope he realizes where he is and how much he now has to lose.
