tpsjugglerdude Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Why do we start the season playing St. Marys and Middle Tenn, arguably 2 of the toughest teams on the schedule, and follow it up with an exhibition game vs Malone? What is the purpose of having an exhibition after already playing two games? Quote
legendofzippy Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 It does look weird, but winning the MAC is all that really counts anyway, so I doubt they care the order of the first few games. Malone though. That's going to be rough to watch. Quote
Hilltopper Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 ESPN has promised us a nice payback for playing at St. Marys. You will see it in next seasons schedule. Quote

Blue & Gold Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 The schedule is kinda funky this year. The way the MAC schedule is set up is quite different from years past. Additionally, we might play either St. Mary's or South Carolina twice this season, as both are with us in the Hawaii Diamondhead Classic. Quote

If we happen to play SC twice it will be in back to back games on ESPN. Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Yes, the schedule featuring Malone as an exhibition after the start of the season is a bit weird. However, I find it to be an improvement over playing a D-III school and counting the W towards the 20-win count. At least this way, it is acknowledged that this is not a real competition because in terms of rules, scholarships, etc. such a program is not on our level. And to be clear, that is not a backhanded insult. It is merely a reality of the hierarchy of divisions. In general, I really like this year's schedule. I can see such a schedule as evidence for the program advancing. Get an NCAA win or two under the belt and we will have achieved everything I dreamed of during the Hipsher era. Quote
GoZips Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 See that the Zips play THIRTY-ONE regular season games. One over the mandated limit thanks to the exempt rule. The off shore Diamond Head Classic gives the Zips an extra regular season game. Both Div-3 opponents are classified as exhibition games. That's fine. That they are not played one-two in the schedule is largely due to getting invited to ESPN's Tip Off Showcase. Quote
