Dr Z
I haven't listened to Cleveland sports talk radio since I got a lifetime subscription to Sirius a decade ago. The whole Couch vs Holcomb debates pushed me over the edge. I never regretted the choice. Sirius is awesome for sports fans. That being said, one of my friends emailed this piece to me, and said this is a MUST listen. He was right. Tony Rizzo puts the Browns trade into "perspective" Classic radio. Turn in your Sunday tickets for Saturday excitement!
skip-zip
I'm thinking this can go two ways: 1) The Browns might get MORE attention for awhile on local media because of this trade, which takes attention away from the Zips. 2) Some fans might start jumping ship and possibly looking for something else to do this fall. So, it's hard to say if this helps us at all, at this point. It certainly makes the Michigan news go away pretty quickly.
Spin
This might move the needle a little in the Akron area. If the Buckeyes went through a long period like the Browns have would move the needle if the Zips were winning. Side note: I agree with Tony. And the rant on Munch was priceless. LZIp
Cleveland sports radio/media has always been a joke. The trade isnt going to help Akron any. Cleveland has been, and always will be a Browns town. The Indians are .5 games out of the playoffs and all anyone wants to talk is the Browns. Dr Z
...all anyone wants to talk is the Browns. It was even on CNN's frontpage this morning. I would say it's a correct topic of conversation in town. Everybody slows down to watch the accident on the side of the road.

I agree, but does "Cleveland" fans even care about what goes on in Akron sports wise? 2) Some fans might start jumping ship and possibly looking for something else to do this fall. That is all up to the marketing department if they want(and should) do something.

I had two lifelong Browns fans call me this morning to say that they want to join us on Saturday. I already said that a failing Browns team may not pay big dividends for us, but to state that it doesn't help direct any new attention to an alternative such as Akron at all is ridiculous. skip-zip
Lance99: When I made reference to "local media", I'm referring to Akron media just as much as Cleveland. So, my comment was referring to how much OUR newspaper, in particular, might be covering the Browns debacle instead of the possible resurging Zips. I dont see any connection between a bad NFL team leading to more support for a bad NCAA team. The Browns have been bad for 14 years, so a mass influx of new Zips supporters isnt going to occur all of the sudden. College and NFL aren't directly competing against each other. The Zips and only the Zips control the attention they receive. and on topic of the Browns- only short-sighted fools think this is a bad move for the organization. T-rich has proven to be nothing better than an average to slightly above average back so far. Sure as hell not worth the #3 pick. Lucky they got a first rounder out of him. Only RB in the league worth a first rounder goes by the name of Adrian Peterson. The RB position might be the most expendable in the NFL
LZIp
Chris Trapasso @ChrisTrapasso 22m Some perspective: Trent Richardson's 298 NFL carries have gone for 1,055 yards. Willis McGahee's last 298 carries have gone for 1,359 yards. to add, the Browns werent doing anything this year. 5-6 wins tops. They realize Weeden sucks and there are some real nice QB prospects in this year's draft. The Colt's first round pick can be used to move up and get their guy if need be (hopefully Teddy). The Colts themselves know what a franchise QB can do right away to a horrible team.
Dr Z
5-6 wins tops....and there are some real nice QB prospects in this year's draft.Wouldn't five wins get you in the top 10 to draft one of those "real nice" QBs? Why kick your ticket holders in the gut seven months before you draft one and start over again. Since the Browns are "not going anywhere", why not trade Haden too. Anyone get a mic in front of Bernie yet? Forbes writer questions if the trade had anything to do with Pilot Flying J fiasco?

skip-zip
How must Brandon Weeden be feeling today? He's now the lame duck QB for one of the worst teams in the NFL, and knows his franchise will be replacing him, and he still gets to get his arse kicked around for 14 more games. Other than wanting to switch places with him for his paycheck, I wouldn't want to be him right now.

Dr Z
Looks to be a fun battle for the bottom of the division between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.Wouldn't it be ironic that the very team the Browns have to trade up with in the draft to get the QB that they covet, is the Steelers? Think the two teams won't trade? The two GMs have already traded once in last years draft. Hmmmm....

Spin
Yeah, I bet all those people who want to keep tanking until we're the 1988 49'ers are having fits right now.

Dr Z
I saw this on Sports Illustrated today. This reminds me of a call Steve French took one time. A YSU fan (that harassed him every week) asked him what he thought of Jim Tressel coaching OSU. Frenchy stopped...gave a funny look...paused...looked into the camera and screamed "MY BIG TOE HAS A BETTER CHANCE OF COACHING AT OHIO STATE!!!" I talked to him about it years later, and told him it was one of my favorite tv moments in sports talk shows. He replied "I said that?" You don't want to know what I would pay for that tape. If someone worked at the CAT, please make it happen.
LZIp
I saw an equally dumb caller last night right before the Tribe pregame. He suggested trading Kyrie because we are playing "great" without him. Drennan just hung up lol.But Drennan is still an annoying loud mouth.
