fknbuflobo
5th in one poll and 9th in the other. Which one do you think is more "accurate"? Coaches Poll, already linked here, is most "accurate". NSCAA = #9 TDS = #12 CSN = #10 SA = #5 Bear in mind that NCAA selection commitee uses RPI, using formula for Strength Of Schedule. Zips are currently at #27. This will change a lot before tournament. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1...mens_soccer_rpi

Dave in Green
Considering that the Zips' poll rankings are much better than their RPI ranking, this seems to fit the general trend in all sports of teams that have been consistent national powers over a period of years getting favorable consideration from pollsters even in years when their RPI is down. It's a residual effect that works both ways, as rising powers in sports tend to have poll rankings that lag their RPI ranking. In the case of Zips soccer, I guess we can't complain about it the way we might in football or basketball. When playing Monopoly, it's always better to live on Boardwalk than on Mediterranean Ave.
MDZip
and you have to realize how fortunate that we were to watch the dominant team in 2009....no losses and no ties until the final four Despite the fact they didn't win the championship that year, I believe that was the best Zips team of all time (and better than the one that did win the title the following year) and one of the greatest in college soccer history. Bet it would be pretty tough to find too many teams that didn't give up a goal during their entire tournament run, whether they won the title or not. That was what was so frustrating about the PK loss to UVA, I really believe the Zips could have beaten them had they been at full strength. (sigh)

a-zip
Hey, even if we get a top 4 ranking in RPI and Coaches Poll, we will still likely get a 5 seed
TennZip
First off, I have to strongly agree with MDZip. the 2009 team was the best zips team ever.... if Virginia had gone after "Ampai" and injured him even more, the zips would have found a way to score with "Ampai" in there and on the RPI front, the two teams that have defeated Akron....both lost last night (not good for RPI) St. Johns lost to Fairleigh Dickinson and VCU lost to Virginia Wake Forest is going to be a very HUGE game for where this zip team will be seeded in the NCAA's

Of course, the seeding won't matter if we fall in PKs to an inferior opponent AT HOME.

And I have recently viewed it. Ampai was clearly injured and should have sat out the match. Porter erred in not playing Speas more in MF. Nagbe should have dropped back to MF. Yoram Mwila (RIP) should have played up top with Bunbury. BTW, Teal Bunbury played about as poorly as anyone in that match - and then he won the Hermann Trophy 6 weeks later. Go figure! Ando
teal missed a lot of chances, a few of them pretty good ones, in the UVA game if memory serves

I am being sarcastic of course because we still have to win every game BUT I am still frosted by our seeding and even wrote a letter to the NCAA (the corrupt SOBs they are)

Just playing along! Most people will not even remember your reference (sadly) because the issue of going to play at UCONN never even came up.
