Hilltopper Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Coach Dambrot announced today that the Zips will be in the field of next years Charleston Classic. This is a great tournament for maximum exposure for our program. Historically this tournament has a good field. When ESPN asked us to go to St. Marys for the Tipp Off game we got this invite as a reward. From a fans point of view it's a great location and timing. November is nice time to be in S Carolina and it's a reasonable drive. Who knows, maybe I'll finally get to meet GP1. Quote

Nice field with a lot of "big name" opponents; all beatable. Quote

Zipgrad01 Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Thanks for the heads up. Already planning my trip. Where is BJ Gladden in this picture? Quote
akronzips71 Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Is that Big Dog all the way to the right? That is one large individual. Tree looks like someone I would NOT want mad at me. Ever. Hope he continues that look onto the Court. Quote

Zips22 Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Where is BJ Gladden in this picture? Gladden isn't from ohio Quote
ksu sucks Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Gladden isn't from ohio What he said. That was a pic of all the Ohio born zips. So that would leave out Gladden and Bentancourt(as far as I can remember). Quote

And Diggs and Deji. If I'm looking at it right: from left to right - Kretzer, Forsythe, Evans, Cheatham, Treadwell, Harney, Jackson, McAdams, Johnson. Quote

Got so excited when I saw this I thought it was next month and put it in my Outlook. Took a trip to the website to realize it was next year. Quote

ksu sucks Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 The bio for BJ Gladden says that he was born in Elyria, Ohio. Nice catch. I wasn't aware he was born in OH. Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 All the players pictured played HS basketball in Ohio, so they may have started out with that thinking and then evolved into the "Ohio Born" line. That would explain the disconnect in omitting Gladden, who was born in Elyria but didn't play HS basketball in Ohio. Quote

I have some Hilton points I need to use up and my family was going to go to Charleston in May but now we will postpone the trip 6 months to watch some Zips bball. Quote
GP1 Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Gozips, do you know what the team hotel will be or is it still too early? I have some Hilton points I need to use up and my family was going to go to Charleston in May but now we will postpone the trip 6 months to watch some Zips bball. There are some great places to stay in Charleston. For your brand, stick with the Doubletree on Church St. or the Hampton on Meeting St. Still a long way away, but as we get closer, I will make some recommendations to the Board as to where to stay/eat and why to stay/eat there. Charleston is a fantastic place. Personally, I don't like to stay in Charleston unless my wife gets us a room at Market Pavilion which has the best rooftop bar I have ever been to. Rooftop bars are real popular in the south. When we stay, we like to go to the Comfort Inn and Suites in Mt. Pleasant or Wild Dunes. Since we limit our trips to Charleston to the nine month off season we get real good deals at all of these places. My recommendation is to travel in and out of the City for the games. Do some sightseeing around the city right before and after the games. Spend your nights in Mt. Pleasant/Isle of Palm/Sullivans Island area. You won't regret it. Probably get a better deal on rooms. Play some golf at Wild Dunes if you like to golf. Quote

I will probably bring my clubs down for some golf at least 1 day so as we get closer maybe we can get a Zipsnation 4some or 2 to play somewhere. Quote
GoZips Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Gozips, do you know what the team hotel will be or is it still too early? Honestly, the logistics probably will not be taken care of until late next Summer. But, I'll ask. Quote
