Dr Z Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Akron QB Luke Getsy will have more control at the line of scrimmage this season. Zips coach J.D. Brookhart wants Getsy, who had become the MAC's best player by the end of last season, to manage the offense and change plays at the line if needed. The Zips' passing offense made huge strides in Brookhart's first two seasons and will give Penn State--with its revamped secondary--plenty of problems in their season opener. The Zips also play at N.C. State (with its gutted defense) on September 9 in what has to be one of the season's easiest upset picks. . . Matt Hayes from the Sporting News Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 I figured he already was already calling plays at the line, at the end of the year, that is why I thought the offense was running better. Oh well....I feel comfortable with this unleashing "as long as he studies game film". It doesn't do any good to know a bunch of audibles if you don't know when to call them. Sounds like JD is brewing up a plan to knock off Penn, Cinci, and NC State. Quote
InTheZone Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 If we were to knock off Penn State, who will probably enter the season in the top 10, it would be the biggest moment in the history of the university in my opinion. And I don't just mean athletically, I mean biggest moment period. Quote

Well since we've never beaten Ohio State at that point beating Penn State would. But you're right, when we beat the Suckeyes in '07 it's going to blow the Penn State win away. Quote

Quickzips Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 The Zips also play at N.C. State (with its gutted defense) on September 9 in what has to be one of the season's easiest upset picks. . . Thats probably my favorite line of the whole thing right there. As much as I'd love to beat Penn St. I think our best shot at knocking off a BCS team is going to come against NC St. That team was gutted on both sides of the ball this year and especially on defense where they lost five starters to the draft (Mario Williams, Manny Lawson, John McCargo, Stephen Tulloch and Marcus Hudson). Heck 3/4 of their d-line went in the first round (Williams, Lawson and McCargo). That is a team ripe for the pickins right there. If we can come out of that OOC schedule at .500 or above then the MAC seriously needs to watch out for the Zips. As far as giving Getsy more control of the offense I'm all for it. Keeping him healthy is going to be a big thing this year. We all saw how bad he looked mid-season when his throwing hand wasn't right. We can't have that again this year. Quote

Ryno aka Menace Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Cincinnati is BCS?????????????????? They are now they are in the Big East. Quote
Balki Bartokomous Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Uh-oh. Someone mentioned "Big East". I'll do the mandatory "Akron should move to the Big East" post.*clears throatAkron should move to the Big East. Quote

Ohh yeah, forgot about them, lol. I got a feeling that will be a win for us but I would get much more excited knocking off Penn St. or NC St. than I would Cincy. Heck, I expect to knock of Cincy. The other two I would look at as upsets. Quote
