Western Michigan Broncos

Recommended Posts

forecast was for very bad weather this afternoon...

that probably kept the crowd down

they could have easily scored 4 in first half

Aodhan missed a PK 5 minutes in and zac had great opportunity to score 1 minute in on a rebound off reinaldo shot

I hope there were lots of recruits at today's game...

very pretty, attractive, aggressive soccer...

this team will be dangerous in the NCAA's

if they don't get a top 16 seed, there needs to be an investigation

Sorry I didn't get to see the game as I was out all day. So the Zips score a maximum of 2 goals per game in the regular season, and then 3 and 4 in the two tournament games. I wonder what @GoZips is thinking about Coach Embick's style of coaching right about now? :D Did the high, gusting winds affect play?

I'm sure that will go just as far as all the other times we've been screwed with location, seeding, etc.

Prepare for the worst, when the NCAAs treatment of Akron Soccer is concerned.

Is that including 2009, the year where the Zips were the #1 seed or not?

the WMU goalie made the all tourney team despite giving up 4 goals today

comments from the Western Michigan coach...show that Akron could have scored more than 4 goals today

"Akron was the better team today, you just have to tip your hat to them, they were terrific in every phase of the game," said WMU head coach Chad Wiseman.

"goalie Chase Rau was absolutely unbelievable throughout the match. Conceding four goals just doesn't do his performance justice. He had four or five saves no body I have seen this year could make.

"I am so proud of this team, they have come so far in the four months together. I could not of asked anything more of them today or throughout the season. They gave us everything they had."

Someone should send that quote to the NCAA soccer tournament selection committee. If conceding "only" 4 goals to UA qualifies a GK for the all-tournament team, what does that say about the Zips?

I am afraid that says more about MAC MSOC than it does about Zips. Sadly.

I wondered about that at first too, but he did better than the stats show. He made some good plays. At least two goals were follow ups after he made good saves that left him on the ground. He had very little help back there. Also, Akron's keeper rarely got challenged so it would be hard to give it to him. I didn't see Hartwick play. WVU didn't earn it. Not much to choose from when the tournament has only three matches.

I get it now. WVU and Hartwick played only one game each. In the championship game, UA's GK was mostly napping while the action was all going on at the other end of the pitch. After shutting out Hartwick, the WMU GK was peppered with shots from the Zips and stopped all but 4. Process of elimination. :)
