GP1
New Coach Looks like a solid hire. Good recruiter and success coaching his recruits. Much better than I thought they could get after recent difficulties.

skip-zip
I am having flashbacks... Notre Dame -- Check Offensive Coach -- Check Recruiting Coordinator - -Check anyone else feeling nauseas? LOL !! Yes, we did indeed follow this path once ourselves. Also, if you recall, there was plenty of talk on this board about Martin, four years ago.

LZIp
Why would we be nauseated? He's going to our competitor. That should make us happy. This. And I have no sympathy for however bad the state of Miami (OH) athletics currently is or will be.
Z.I.P.
This. And I have no sympathy for however bad the state of Miami (OH) athletics currently is or will be. Fine. You don't want the MAC to become more competitive. So don't ever complain about the league or campaign for Akron to leave based on the league's lack of competitiveness. Period. Kangaroo Craig
I am having flashbacks... Notre Dame -- Check Offensive Coach -- Check Recruiting Coordinator - -Check anyone else feeling nauseas? My initial thoughts as well, but this guy has a far stronger resume' than Ianello did when we hired him. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Coach I had any previous head coaching experience, let alone a national title somewhere. I expect Chuck Martin to succeed at MU. ZachTheZip
Chuck Martin had great success at Grand Valley State, where he took over for Brian Kelly, but the program was in great shape already. Don't know how he'll handle taking over a program that's not already in great shape.
Dave in Green
Fine. You don't want the MAC to become more competitive. So don't ever complain about the league or campaign for Akron to leave based on the league's lack of competitiveness. Period. Two eternal conflicting themes on ZN.o: 1. We wish for other teams in the MAC to fail. 2. We wish the MAC was stronger so UA would get more respect for winning in the MAC.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Coach I had any previous head coaching experience, let alone a national title somewhere. I expect Chuck Martin to succeed at MU. I totally agree. However, the new guy at Miami doesn't have nearly the resume or ability of Bowden. While he may be a really good football coach, the mountain he must climb may be too big for just a good football coach. He is a good hire, but it could take a coach or two before that ship is righted.

Every conference has bottom feeders, and I would want Miami to be a bottom feeder over anyone. Yes, even Can't and OU. I want our rivals to actually be decent to make for big games (as long as they we still win). Everybody that I've met from there fits the mold of the "collar-popped frat boy". I've actually met decent people from Can't and OU.

Valpo Zip
I am having flashbacks... Notre Dame -- Check Offensive Coach -- Check Recruiting Coordinator - -Check anyone else feeling nauseas? There is a huge difference. RI was part of a failing regime and was fired for the lack of productivity. Martin is with a ND team that took them to the national championship last year. g-mann17
Never want your rival to be good. Never. ^Coming from a Suckeye fan, Michigan not being good sure is helping out the Big 10. You always want your rival to be good, because it proves how great you are when you beat them. Look at Akron vs OU and Akron vs Can't in basketball.
