zippy5
If only paying coaches was the problem, it could have been easily fixed by now. There are a mountain of reasons the MAC is not a bigger conference. Coaches salaries can be one of those reasons. The MAC is a great place for young coaches. It doesn't take long to turn a program around. However the pay isn't there to keep them, so they do their part and bolt for more money. Understandable, I don't blame them. I bet Matt Campbell is gone from Toledo after another good year. I'm also very glad that it appears the guy here for our turnaround wants it to be his last job, hope he stays true to that
Zipgrad01
Money talks, but I have to believe he should have waited for a better opportunity. He will probably go there, fail. and then end up at Presbyterian or something like Turner Gill. You aren't going to turn historical mediocre/bottom feeder programs into contenders. So you are saying Bowden has no chance???
LZIp
So you are saying Bowden has no chance??? Not at all. I was referring to major programs really (I think GP1 would agree). I think Akron and most other Ohio MAC programs have a unique opportunity that most others don't have. We have one major program in a state, and more specifically region with a ton of talent. Not sure ANY other state can say the same.

BGSU has a returning QB that will be a junior, a stud running back, a decent group of receivers and still a lot of playmakers on defense. I would rather run the table in the MAC next year and get a higher profile Big Ten, ACC, etc.. type job than to go to a basketball school that isnt really committed to football. He is looking at the short term money because he may get canned in 3 years instead of waiting for long term money by securing a better job.
