MAC Recruiting Overview

Here.

Interesting that WMU has 29 commitments...when you are only allowed to sign a maximum of 25.

I would think if you have an obscene amount of commitments by Christmas, you probably aimed low on your talent level.

You're allowed to sign 25 freshmen. Non-qualifiers and JUCOs can be counted towards the previous class if they sign early.

WMU had somehow locked up a dozen 3-star recruits before the season, and retained them even after PJ Fleck's first year disaster.

Then we need to start aiming lower.

They have 13 (Rivals) three-stars, and the list of commits on the link you provided looks pretty much the way it did 3 months ago.

unrelated to the MAC, but I believe Tennessee has at least 34 (!) commits already.

I believe another loophole is that you can greyshirt some players and have them count towards next year's class. I believe that is what was done with Bickley.

As for the MAC, WMU and UMASS is the most surprising to me. They picked up Lonnie Johnson (who I really wanted us to get) even after their horrible season. Last year, UMASS brought in a stud at RB and appears to be continuing to do the same even after showing no improvement as a program this season. I'm pretty sure I read that their QB is transferring.

SEC schools are notorious for this. They oversign and usher out the guys that "dont work out" from all of their previous classes.

And then schools like us pick up those that don't work out? Like Pittman?

Pittman is not one of those guys. He and Meyer didnt get along. I dont think there is a question about whether or not Pittman can play. I am talking about guys that they offer and they end up not being very good players. The SEC is very good at ushering those guys out the door.

@BobMcGovernJr: Charley Molnar has been dismissed as the head football coach of the University of Massachusetts.

UMass web site. The timing is strange. He never impressed me on the field, but his recruiting seemed to be going fairly well. Maybe they want to make a run at someone who has or will soon become available?

Odd timing for UMass, a month after their season ended. I wonder why it was delayed. This sets them back for recruiting and in finding a new coach.

They were already set back from the looks of it. They should be down here recruiting real football players to compete in the MAC. They looked determined to pull guys from that area. I don't think the prospects are there. Local guys are great but playing JV quarters (10min) in HS speaks for itself in that area.
