Definitely a good read, though I must admit some of the stats I had to look-up what they meant.

Akron 2014 will go 7-5. 2-2 in OOC play (I'm not willing to put a name on who we upset yet). Wins against Can't, UMass, EMU, Miami and a revenge win against either OU or BGSU, though I'm leaning towards it being Ohio. Book it for me. :CK_brew::gun:

I like this analysis although some two deep players were left out (Erickson, Lio etc..). I'm not sure what season it will be in the next few, but one will be so impressive that we will finally be on the map in FBS football. Joe Akron will probably not buy tickets till then, so enjoy the short lines for now die hard Zips fans as Bowden will be putting roaring crowds at the Info in the future.

I hope we don't go 7-5, only because if we get seven wins I am hoping there is a game #13.

Nice read Bill.

While Bill makes a lot of good points, this one will likely be the most important to improve upon.

"If you're going to average 10.8 yards per completion, your completion rate better be around 70 percent. Kyle Pohl's was 56 percent. That's not going to work."

I hope Kyle is practicing multiple crossing routes and studying his playbook ad nauseum.

In his defense, he was hurt. However the pass selection was not that good at all. No Bubble Screens this season!

MAC schedule leaked. They took the page down.. But unless there are changes we have 4 or 5 straight Tuesday night games in November/December. Two MAC games on each Tuesday starting in November, with one being selected for ESPN2 and the other on ESPN3

I'm sorry...but Tuesday night games sounds like a disaster for us (attendance wise) in November. Who's going to go watch an Zips game...in the cold...on a school/work night...

I know that severely limits my ability to attend games. :( Though I will be there within reason.

One should never forget with the amount of reminders written.

Can't State vs. Akron on a Tuesday...in November...yes let's have closest D-I rivalry play on the WORST day in the WORST month for college football (attendance wise). Freaking morons running the MAC. Can't Akon game will have more people in attendance earlier in the year.

What a joke!

Why do we have all these Tuesday night games? Also, Why was the Can't game moved to the Tuesday BEFORE Thanksgiving!? :wall:

The only way I could justify this is if the Zips are on the Main ESPN channel ALL WEEKS!

Great way to Kill the Program Mid American Conference. Unless this is some type of punishment………...

The Nov. schedule f-----g sucks! What the hell was the MAC thinking? I'm not sure that I can make it to the 2 home games in Nov. although I will be at the Can't game since I will be on vacation that week. This is nothing more than an attendance killer. What kind of price break will we get on our season tickets?

Nobody likes the midweek games (tailgating blows, etc), but this has been a staple of MACtion for a while now so we were certainly due to get stuck with a few. Four in a row seems like a bit of an overkill, but as zippy5 points out it probably is an indication that the conference recognizes Akron as a rising program ready for some more exposure. If you have to play 4 Tuesday games in a row, I'm glad they're the last 4 regular season games (traditional MACtion time of year). By the BG game, we'll have a good idea if the Zips are in the championship hunt or not and perhaps the added interest of a possible divisional race will partially offset the inconvenient kickoff date/time in terms of attendance.

If you're looking at it from a purely competitive standpoint, the schedule sets up extremely well for the Zips. I like our chances to get out of the gate strong in conference play. UA should be no worse than 3-3 (2-0 in MAC) when heading to Athens with a nice opportunity for an upset (or just a victory) over the Bobcats. If we are in contention late in the year, I can very easily see a group of 25-50 of us "taking over" both Alumni Stadium and Dix Stadium for our last two road games. That COULD be a silver lining with all the Tuesday games.

I'll have to spend more vacation, but I still plan to make a run at seeing all 12 regular season games in 2014. I'm ready! Go Zips!!

I consider ESPN2 to be a main ESPN channel. This could be a good thing; if Bowden is able to position the team well. I think if we (and our potential opponent) are doing relatively well, we may be able to land ESPN2 (hence a more national audience). Football fans crave football, and there's not much football on a Tuesday night to watch. It would be background to many places. Yes background, but it would be an opportunity for the team to shine and make statement for itself. Especially the OHIO or BGSU game.

But don't get me wrong: this is a terrible, terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE schedule.

From a competition standpoint, the schedule sets up very nicely. However, from a fans POV this sucks. 3 of our 6 home games are being played on weeknights. That is horrible. The MAC should be ashamed for the way they put the schedule together. If TW had any cajonnas, he would be complaining to kingdoms come. I know it wouldn't do any good for this year, but not one school in the MAC should be playing 4 Tuesday night games in a row.

Sorry to vent, but I am really ticked off. It doesn't;t happen often.

you guys have to be shitting me complaining about the scheduling. Yeah it isn't ideal from a fan's perspective that is looking to win the game. Only on ZN.O will you see people complaining about national #MACtion exposure and an easier conference schedule than last season.

The MAC is rewarding us (and no, not by the easier teams) by giving us national games. How many did we have last year? And no, ESPN3 doesnt count. We are playing in the time slot that OU, NIU, Toledo, Ball St, Buffalo, etc were playing in. Enjoy it.
