GP1
LinkI think he is missing the point. Watching good football every day of the week is great in my eyes. Watching good football 2-3 days a week and crap the other 4-5 days a week is horrible.NFL is losing audience with Thursday games because the level of football being played is crap. There isn't enough time to prepare for games mentally or physically from Sunday to Thursday. Americans like quality. These games are not providing quality.
zen
He is right, about the greed bringing them down, but not for the reasons I read in the article. There are more advertising breaks during football games now, then when I was growing up, and they are longer.I don't watch NFL much anymore. To me, it;s like watching a marathon session of commercials with football sprinkled in between.I exxagerate, but that;s how it feels to me, and it;s not going to change. I have changed. I'm not interested in that.
Dave in Green
It's not just football that's over-saturated with commercials on TV. Check out this estimate of the percentage of TV time devoted to commercials over the years:1952 - 13 percent of the time was spent watching commercials (only 4 minutes out of every half hour!)1958 - 13 percent1961 - 18 percent1963 - 20 percent1964 - 18 percent1976 - 17 percent1977 - 18 percent1981 - 18 percent1990 - 22 percent1994 - 24 percent2001 - 30 percent2004 - 30 percent2006 - 30 percent2007 - 30 percent2008 - 32 percent2009 - 30 percent2010 - 32 percent2011 - 31 percent2012 - 33 percent2013 - 32 percent

I love the NFL, but change is needed. On Mondays and Thursdays I DVR games and start watching an hour after the game starts. Commercials solved. I also fast forward kickoffs, extra points, and punts...Zzzzzzzzz. On Sundays I watch the games on a four TV system, you would be shocked at how many times all four TVs are on commercial. Balsy
I know I'm considerably younger than most on this forum...but EVEN I can remember when commercials were a lot less. When I was a kid, I remember I had commercial breaks memorized. essentially half-hour long shows had two...while full hour shows had three. roughly 15-30-45 min respectably, with a fourth commercial segment in-between shows. Commercials are absolutely out of control. What's even worse is that networks take commercials breaks when they shouldn't...and don't when they should. When a player is laying injured on the field GO TO COMMERCIAL BREAK! I don't want to see a guy writhing in pain on the field...all I say to myself is "have some respect and take the camera off of him. Same with fights, don't glorify that crap. After waisting time on non-sense like that they'll go to a break before the kick-off and after the kick-off. Ridiculous.

LZIp
I'm a fan of Cubes, but think he is off base here. Well, he may not be off base, but he shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses. The NBA is in a lot worse shape.
