Dr Z Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Huggins admitted he had chances to be an NBA head coach, noting his best opportunity came with Miami in 1996. It meant more money and he was tempted, but he had a change of heart after speaking with Nick Van Exel, an NBA player at the time and a former guard on the 1992 Cincinnati team he guided to the Final Four."He said, 'You'll never have a chance to develop the relationships you had with us at Cincinnati, you'll never have a chance to have the influence you had with us, and you'll never get a chance to help people like you helped us,'" Huggins shared. "I thought about it and he was right." Pretty cool stuff. 1 Quote
Z.I.P. Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Of all the Akron men's head coaches I've met, Huggins was the most successful, and the least likeable. Of course that depends on your measure of "success". Quote

Of course that depends on your measure of "success". These characteristics might make him an excellent NBA coach. I have talked with Huggins on a few occasions and compared to some NBA coaches I have talked with Huggins is the Good Humor man. Don Nelson, for example, has the personality of a house plant. Quote
