Camp update from Elton

He also noticed Mizell's weight loss.

Jerome Lane is switching from LB to Safety. It should be exciting to see him flying around the field.

Jamel Turner is off the team. Just couldn't stay eligible.

If he has the speed to go along with his size he will be a great safety. Can he cover anyone is the real question.

I have a feeling he will eventually grow into a LB again though.

It is amazing to me that we have absolutely nobody on this board that has any association with the program. I would love to hear what's going on in practice and how players are looking. There is nothing on GOZIPS.com. They can't even show the complete roster with weights/height. Does Akron even have an SID?

It's nice to see how guys progressed over the winter and spring, but nothing.

If only we had a beat reporter. You'd figure the program would be getting more coverage than the past 5 years considering how last season ended and with the expectations coming into this season. Yet, it seems like less coverage than all of those 1-11 seasons.

Zips FB twitter did seem to have some decent updates during the scrimmage, though.

Yea, I am also frustrated with the media coverage, I can't ever remember it being so sparse! I suspect money is really tight and the papers are focusing on what makes them money. However, you would think that Gozips.com would be improving....apparently not the case. Seems like they caught Terry at some random spot in the stadium and just decided to shoot right there. How hard is it to schedule a regular interview with the guy in a more professional environment? With any luck, the Zips will tear things up and we won't be talking about this in a month!

GT of the Beacon Journal has a couple of camp stories today. The first is a nice piece on Mizell (can't wait to see these LBs flying all over the field against an opponent). The second is a summary of today's practice (#11).

Amato said he once clocked Mizell at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. If that’s the case, he just might be terrorizing running backs and quarterbacks all season if he stays healthy.

I am very anxious to see this defense. The turnaround is astounding, since just a couple of years ago they couldn't stop anybody. Kudos to the staff in getting some more talent in here and coaching them up. Should be fun.
