skip-zip
It was 4th and 9. Gotta take the field goal there. We got the ball last, at the 27 yrd. line, plenty of time, two time outs anyway, and only needing a field goal. That totally justified the decision to take 3 on the second to last possession.

I agree. The defense was dominate in the 2nd half. Kick the field goal, get a stop and go score. The killer was kicking the ball out of bounds. It completely changed field position. zipsrule
The Zips were better in time of possession as well as total yards (we held OU to 227). The opportunities were there - we didn't take advantage of them. That is the difference between a win and a loss. When we start taking advantage of them, that is when we will turn the corner as a program.
skip-zip
Zipgrad....no doubt. You CANNOT kick the ball out of bounds there. That was the most boneheaded mistake of all.
LoyalZIP
Akron played bad and almost beat a damn good MAC team. This, my friends, is progress. In 2013, we lost 43-3 to a similar Ohio team on homecoming in the rain. This year, both teams played gritty, but Ohio's ability to stuff the run ultimately decided it. There were drops and stupid penalties, but if we get that defensive hold on the throw along the sidelines to Wolf, we win this game. If the Zips play with that defensive intensity for 60 minutes, they would shut everyone out. The offense stunk today. The penalty on the pass to McNeil was BS because Bohan fell over and they called a hold on him because the guy tripped over him (I'm pretty sure). We played like shit and put up 12 against a great defense and Stein finally played like the senior he is. The division is still in reach, but it will be tough. NOW BEAT EMU!!!!!(Sorry if I repeated myself or this seemed choppy. I'm tired and on my phone.)

Progress is when you win games and we aren't winning anything.Progress is going from being awful and never having a chance to win to having a chance to win every game. Under Bowden, especially these past two years, Akron has been more competitive than any of the five years before. What we've seen under Bowden is progress. A 14-12 homecoming loss is much different than a 43-3 homecoming loss. Go cheer for Can't if you love mediocrity so much and want Bowden gone. K92
It wouldn't matter if the Zips lost out. The Cult of Bowden would still be telling us how the 2-10 Zips were ready to turn the corner. ZG01 nailed it. These football threads are like partisan politics arguments.

LoyalZIP
Oh, you want wins? SHOCKER. Progress leads to bigger things. I'm not f'ing happy about the loss today, but I can say that the Zips put up a fight that they wouldn't have in the past. I've never wanted the pot of gold so badly in my time cheering on the Zips, and a loss like this can only lead to improvements. Ohio is a solid team that is one of the best coached in the country and Akron lost by 2 points on a day full of poor play and stupid mistakes. Can I not be happy about that? Oh, I can't because we can't take positives from a loss. #FireBowden #ReHireIanello
skip-zip
Keener. To be honest, I don't know ANY coach who wouldn't try to paint a rosy picture of a 2-10 team. They always believe that they are headed somewhere. It's not just Bowden. If your coach is NOT doing this...especially in the face of their fans and their own players...that's when you have to be concerned. But, it still doesn't necessarily mean that he's right, and that someone shouldn't question it.

All objectivity has, been lost on this board. All we have are the backers and the bashers, each of whom inspire the other to entrench deeper in their viewpoints. Just like Dees & Ars. LoyalZIP
Who on earth wants to rehire Ianello?? When does progress not mean anything and wins do?Better yet, cut football. Thanks, Terry Bowden. I'll still worship you because no matter what happens, I'll always be by your side, even if Akron is playing its best football in 7 years and I can't be happy about it. But seriously, Above all, we want wins, and right now, Bowden and his staff give us the best chance to do that faster than if we were to clean house (again) and start from scratch. Are his methods unorthodox? Absolutely, but until he proves to me that it doesn't work (2-3, 0-1 MAC through 5 games isn't a large enough sample), I'm interested in the possibilities.
