Great victory for the Zips! Looking at two games now, is Domonkos and Stec the answers for our kicking game? How is Igor coming along? A 33 yard average with a 29 net is not going to cut it. The defense is fantastic, but they can't always start from the wrong side of the 50! 2 games, 3 bobbled snaps, 2 blocked. What about the other punter? He was listed #1 until the Penn St game. He is here for his third year. I did a little research, and he was Ohio all state his senior year. Is it time for a change?

IMO, a little patience is in order. They have both had 2 tough environments in which to begin their college careers. Your first collegiate game At PSU in front of 100K plus in steady rain...holy smokes. Then the wolfpack pinning their ears back with our o-line struggling to block...yikes. At CMU won't be quite as intimidating and then in the Rubber Bowl...let's see how they do these next 2 games. I think they will gain some confidence and be alright. Which will make us that much better.

I don't know what the answer is, but I the kicking game is the shakiest part of the team right now. A missed 33 yard field goal against NC State that could have cost the game and a missed extra point against PSU tell me that even placekicking is in doubt.Blocked punts aren't necessarily the fault of the kicker, but punts that only go 30 yards with the help of a roll are. I am of the opinion that if someone else on the Zips squad looked competent, JD would make the change this coming week. Although it's hard to replace a starter after a win. That being said, if someone else had looked better they ought to have seen playing time already.

The punter is doing a good job, he just needs to relax and remember to catch the ball. As far as placekicking goes, we need Igor to get better in one quick hurry. Game experience is a big deal and he's getting none. We've managed to squeak by so far without him, but the MAC schedule is going to be brutal, and it starts this week. We've got to have a consistant kicker to contend again.

A cracker sitting behind me told me NC State has blocked more punts than any other school in both of the past two seasons. By their punt block performance Saturday, I have no reason to question this. I'm not concerned about the punter. When he has time he gets the ball off and makes good kicks. The PK made a 47 yard FG against PSU and missed a really easy one Saturday. The Roberto Clemente used to say, "You can't take your way out of a batting slump". When he was in a slump he used to try to swing at least three times per at bat. What does this mean for our kicker? Keep putting him out there to swing his way out of any slump he MAY be in. Once he gets a rythm established, all may work out well.

I'm sorry, guys. Punting is too important to wait for someone to get comfortable! Yes, he had a 52 yard punt, after the roll. He is way too inconsistent for my taste. Is it OK to wait for the 52 yarder while he kicks a 16 yarder and a few 35 yarders? All I'm saying, is give the other kid a chance, and if he's no better, put Stec back in!

I thought I heard Frenchy, Stamms or one of the TV announcers mention during one of the two games that Stec is not standing back far enough and that is giving the defense an opportunity to block his kick. If so, I didn't notice, but then again, I'm 44 and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. It does seem that a lot of his problems are a result of pressure from the opposing rushers. Also, as mentioned here, he has had some trouble handling the snap. As far as Domonkos, I hope it is just early career jitters. He is very capable. He just needs to get it straight between the ears.

I'm down with Stec. I think he'll be fine. I agree he might be too close to the line, but he's not cost us a game yet, and that's with 2 roadies @ BCS. His punt from the endzone in Raleigh was MONEY baby!Stec will be fine.

Just a thought. What a good year to have a 16 yard punt. Can you imagine how quick a 16 yard punt would end up in a td 4 years ago?Now if this happens we always have a chance to hold them to 3 or no points. My hats off to the defensive staff and the defensive players. Nice work guys.It is soooooo fun to root for a team with a defense. You are always in a game with a D.Keep it down the middle, long and straight :nutkick:

I talked to a couple of defensive players today, and they are not happy with Stec. They prefer Hildreth, and even said he's a better punter. What's up here?
I saw Hildreth punt in the spring game. Give me Stec anyday. Stec does need work. In my opinion...which means squat...he's too concerned with catching the ball. Hence he's too slow....hence the opponents are getting some easy shots at blocks. He needs to catch and kick quicker.
