Akron @ Illinois in 2019

If there is a choice to make between $1.1 million or a 2-1, we should take the money every time with a team of this caliber.  To be extremely optimistic, let's say Illinois would increase attendance for a home game by 10,000.  They wouldn't, but let's say they would.  The Zips would have to charge $110 a ticket to recoup the money lost from a payday game.  If you could get a 2-1 or even a 3-1 with a team that would sell out the stadium, that would be a different story.

OK, but if Illinois is truly at our level then we should try to get a 1-for-1 deal with them like we did with Pitt. You could have Illinois at home with the increased attendance and still have your P5 pay game as well. Maybe we tried. I just don't think the Illini would agree to this.

Wasn't Indiana a 2-1?

Indiana was a 1-1, and they actually played at Akron first, the year Infocision opened (2009). We played at Indiana the following year. That's pretty unusual because in most P5/G5 deals the G5 school gets the last of the years (we played at Syracuse in 2008 and 2009, they came to our place in 2010), so the G5 school can opt out by paying some cash in case they get a better offer. The Iowa State series is also a 1-1.

Perhaps Bowden wants a payday game that Akron actually has a glimmer of hope of winning or at least be able to compete with instead of just accepting a paycheck to lose by 30+.

@MDZip was gracious enough to post the details behind that Toledo game. Apparently all OSU asked of Toledo was for a home and home where Toledo agreed to play w/ no guarantee in Columbus and OSU got 12,500 tickets for Browns Stadium. That's actually a lot less than what I 1st suggested. The Plain Dealer estimated the game would net Toledo $4-5 million before stadium rental costs. Akron is obviously much closer to Cleveland than Toledo so I could actually see Akron having an easier time selling tickets and have an easier job of getting people and businesses to opt in for season tickets.

Oh OK. I was not sure :)

It has been made clear how Akron intends to schedule its OOC schedule.

1 - home guaranteed game vs. FCS

1 - guaranteed game on road vs. P5 team

2 - games vs. other FBS opponents.

This was pretty much the target of the old AD.  We'll have to see if that is going to change now.

FWIW, I Just saw a tweet from @Kent State, that our Wagon Wheel matchup next season is at Dix Stadium on Oct 1st.  Can anyone confirm.  Edit, Never mind.  Found the sked in another thread.  My bad!
