Zip_ME87
I posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves a thread of its own. This was in Fox Sports 1 pregame show tonight prior to USAvParaguay broadcast. Edited June 12, 2016 by Zip_ME87
fknbuflobo
UA Athletic Department would never afford this sort of advertisement.

Our University should use anything that proclaims any Akron Athletics program as a "National Powerhouse". Especially since it compares Akron to our nemesis down in Cowlumbus. I love the piece. It would seem to be priceless publicity. But like I've always said, the problem will always be that not enough people in Ohio give a damn about Soccer.
Captain Kangaroo
After the morale napalm of the Scarborough era, it's a great lift to see that story. It reminds you what UA pride feels like.

That DeAndre is from Seattle; Porter played for a Big Ten school and is head coach of an MLS team on the West Coast; Perry Kitchen is from Indiana all helps potential recruits see that UA is not just local. Darlington is the only "Ohio boy", and he's originally from Liberia and only recently got his US citizenship (living an American dream). By the way, not shown in the online video is that there was a nice lead up in studio with a great background as the story was being introduced. Yes, we all certainly know that they are all not "Akron Boys" in the sense of being from Akron, but I'm fine with the fact that they reference them that way collectively, based solely on their college affiliation. I like the term "Akron Boys", also (in the sense of their university affiliation). I was commenting that I think it plays well to a national audience of potential recruits that UA is not solely regional, but great soccer players from anywhere thrive at the University of Akron, a "National Powerhouse".
Zip_ME87
It appears that UA may have gotten a little attention with some of its own marketing.

Seems like there's been solid marketing throughout the summer and it sounds like season ticket sales are going well.

LosAngelesZipFan
yeah, was thinking about these 3 on the USMT as well as Clayton Murphy and Shawn Barber... UA should do something that shows that it is on the national (and global) map in these areas (soccer and mens track). These programs are as good as any in the country and attract talent from all over the world-- that would be a great message to send right now. I also saw that UCincy's president just left http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/06/university_of_cincinnati_presi.html. Maybe we can draft on their presidential search process since they seemed to do a good job previously... like, we should wait and just interview all of their finalists. I'm only half joking...
