roodi
I'm new to this forum, but in the short time I've been here I have seen a lot of hatred of(not rivalry with) Can't State. I have degrees from Can't and Akron, so I'm in a difficult positon when they play each other. However, with the exception of the UA/Can't State game, I pull for both teams to win. I heard one perosn say they didn't want to go to the UA-Can't State (at Can't State) game because they didn't want their money going to help the Can't program (admission, concessions, etc). I guess I'm alone here, but relishing Can't State's seemingly endless futility in putting together a football program is counter-productive. The traditional MAC bottom dwellers are some of the reasons why the conference lacks respect outside of our region. Can't State, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, etc. have horrible programs (last 20 years). This drags down the entire MAC. This has and will continue to hurt MAC programs that are on top (bowl bids, etc.).It's just not good for UA to have weak conference opponents. By the way, Can't State beating Miami-Ohio is significant (not that MU is any good this year). I know it pains many of you, but Can't State might be on the upswing...finally. This is good! Does anybody really take pleasure in success if it comes when your opponents have one hand tied behind thier backs? Would an 11-0 or 12-0 season mean much to a real D-1 program if all the wins came against D-2 and D-3 teams?Be true to UA first, but root for the other MAC schools to succeed as well. Did it feel good when Toledo beat Kansas? For me, yes! What if Can't had beaten Army? Would that have been a good win for the MAC and for UA indirectly? Can't we all just get along? Zip Watcher
Hi & welcome to the Nation. This is your second post explaining the same thing to us. We got it the first time, you're a Can't fan. I think I can speak for most of the Nation when I tell you who we root for, and in what order:1. We root for the Zips2. We root for whoever plays the Flushes3. Each of us inserts our own individual loyalties here. With no disrespect intended, I suggest you might try MACbbs. You'll find a much more receptive audience for your argument and mindset there.Click Me to Root for Everybody!Go Zips!P.S. --->

I happen to agree with you. When I was an undergraduate I spent many weekends partying at Can't. One of my daughters graduated from Akron and the other graduated from Can't. The University of Akron is my first loyality, but Can't and even Ohio State get my support on occasion. However I must say that when Akron plays Can't
roodi
Sorry to repeat myself regarding the topic, but there are many issues here. I didn't realize that anybody would find both postings and attribute them to me...or be "irritated" by them.Well, at least one person is with me, in part.Don't get me wrong. I love UA and the Zips are my primary team.I guess part of my perspective comes from living in Columbus, where the OSU-Michigan rivaly often turns into stupid hatred and, of course, dumpster fires.Speilman often get son the readio here and talks about how he wants UM to lose all the time. Yeah, that makes sense. The what kind of rivalry would that be if UM came limping in to the OSU-UM game at 0-11? Go Zips!

bobbyake
We root against OSU as well. Michigan has a good shot at beating them this year, and i have a feeling a couple guys from this board are going to need tissues if that happens.I understand you defend Can't and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. There's people on here who defend OSU. So if it's acceptable to defend OSU as Zips fans, it's acceptable to defend Can't as well as a Zips fan.Now that pertains to the topic. Zip_ME87
We root against OSU as well. Michigan is going to beat them this year lol, and i have a feeling a couple guys from this board are going to need tissues.Keep your "we"s to yourself. GO BUCKS! :cheers:Another national championship for the Great State of Ohio would be awesome! The Can't State thing does go a little overboard here at times. While I agree that , I only feel that way about them when they play the Zips.
bobbyake
Another national championship for the Great State of Ohio would be awesome!are you f'ing kidding me??? Maybe for Columbus but not for Akron. That would be horrible for Akron. Akron would disappear from the ABJ, and you could forget about recruiting any 4 star players in Ohio. Quickzips
You know what. I hate Can't. I hate them with a fiery passion that makes me want to go out there and kill some of those damn black squirrels, set them on fire and throw them through dorm room windows. Why? Because I go to AKRON. Will you OSU sympathizers ever go down to Columbus and hear anyone saying that they need unity with Michigan b/c they are in the Big 10/11? Hell no. They would consider it treason against the University and hang whoever said them on the spot no questions asked. You know what else. I HATE OSU. I hate them almost as much as I do Can't. They represent everything that is wrong with the NCAA, College Sports and the mentality of the great state of Ohio. To cheer for them would be supporting the institutions that continue to hold back our great institution. I refuse to do that. You all can do what you want, but realize one thing. At Akron we have to fend for ourselves. Your either with us or your against us. There is no middle ground to be had.
