kreed5120
I expect Ivey's minutes to keep trending upwards. Outside of Big Dog he's probably been our best player. There was 1 point in the game where I could of sworn he was playing the "4" as him Antino, Noah, and Williams were on the court all at the same time. Not necessarily a lineup I'd want to run with for long stretches, but if he's able to squeeze an extra 2-3 minutes out of it against smaller front courts I'll take it. With him out there we actually got a guy that can finish at the rim and he can generate fast break opportunities.
skip-zip
I agree that Ivey's been quite a surprise. I'm enjoying watching him play. For any team, going with a small lineup is an option, if the situation dictates. I guess we saw that situation last night. I didn't notice. I wish I did. Blue & Gold
Isaiah Johnson, Antino Jackson lead Zips to victory Another really good game article from Brad Bournival - "Special to the Beacon Journal."
Blue & Gold
I remember KD giving BJ Gladden a pretty long leash before I thought he had earned it; at least more quickly than most other Zips players. KD almost seemed to force BJ into the starting lineup in order to bolster his confidence. I wish he'd treat Utomi the same way.

Since we appear to have lost our dedicated coverage from their writing staff, I'm curious if they've given the same treatment to the school that's 2 hours way as they have to the school in their own backyard? kreed5120
Georgia Southern's zone certainly gave Akron's offense some fits, particularly early on. IK there is a lot of complaining about home scheduling, but I think bringing in an opponent early on that plays that style of play should better prepare us for when (if) we see that type of defense later in the season. Edit: As I said last night, I don't think they were all that bad of a team. They should be competitive in the Sun Belt. I doubt that GT has been replaced as our dedicated staff reporter. He will continue to write the in-depth stories but this new guy will actually attend/watch the games and write the game stories when GT is not available. To my way of thinking, this is an improvement from stories written from "Staff reports".

"Staff" reporters are guys that aren't full time but work regularly covering games for the BJ. The "special to the ABJ" guys are guys that they have paid in the past to cover the away games. Now they're using "wire reports" to cover away games.... which is free.
The Hip Zip
Thought that Ga Southern was a decent opponent. Considering that this was their 2nd game in three nights on the road I thought that they were very well prepped for the game. While BJ, no doubt, had a hand in this, it is my belief that the Eagles are a well coached team that would compete well if in the MAC. kreed5120
Georgia Southern is now 7-0 in Sun Belt play and sits in sole possession of 1st place. When it's all said and done this might end up being our best OOC win. Nothing to be all that excited for, but at least 1 of the opponents we bought turned out to be good/decent. Can't say the same for Radford, Coppin State, nor American U. Edited January 24, 2017 by kreed5120
