good article from the Utah Valley U. student newspaper

Zips will probably be facing a former teammate

Elliot Rubio, who started last season as UVU’s number one goalkeeper, reclaims the spot for the season opener. Halfway through the season, Rubio went out with a shoulder injury, opening the door for Jensen to step in and perform flawlessly. Now, a role reversal has Rubio hoping to take advantage of his opportunity. The season’s opening game against the University of Akron might have extra meaning to Rubio, who spent two seasons at Akron before transferring to UVU.

No. 13 Akron at No. 16 Utah Valley, 9:30 p.m. (www.wacsports.com)

The Zips are on the road to open the season for a Top 20 clash against Utah Valley. Both teams have an opportunity for a statement result as they work through early season growing pains. Akron’s back line needs to be filled in, though they are well-stocked going forward with Nicholas Hinds, Sam Gainford and Stuart Holthusen all fit and ready to fire. German midfielder Paul Hoffmeister is the focal point for the Wolverines, who should be a formidable force in the WAC.

Game is in Orem,  Utah.  Just a few miles North (correx) of Provo. Wasatch Mts.  NOW--are we the dark or white team on the tiny screen?  (I have no audio)  :(

I hope we're white, because that's the side dominating!

utah valley site....shows the corner kick goal...

my video was frozen .....last night and I missed it live

injuries hurt the zips last night...but utah valley played without their all american...hoffmeister

hope to see Nick Hinds playing 90 minutes on Monday

embick's comments on zips site:

"We are disappointed with the result, especially with the manner in which we gave up the goal," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "We have a tough schedule and to open up on the road in a difficult environment is not easy. We had some positives and we will have to build on them. Right now we need to focus on rebounding for Monday."

Very disappointing result, despite knowing that UVS was a good side.  Tough to watch the video stream and make any critical comments, but after a spirited first half, the Zips looked sluggish coming out in the second.  Needed to score first, and when UVS did it made it difficult t play as open as we can.  Denver may be a tough point, at best.

Hey all - my first post! I'm excited to have found a place to talk Zips soccer! My wife is especially excited such a place exists, as she thinks (incorrectly) that this will spare her the soccer lectures

It was a bummer to see them concede that goal on a corner after a poor clearance from Lundt. Still, I thought they played reasonably well for the first real outing.

A few observations... I'm liking Harter more and more - he's got good instincts in the midfield, served up some nice set pieces and plays with high energy.... Nate Brown was awesome - good physical presence and was key to solving some of UVU's high pressure in the 1st half...Moutinho was outstanding - confident on the ball, excellent first touch, great attacking ability on the flank and his passing game is spot on.

Very disappointing result to say the least. We still continue to struggle to score. Ok Sam was out, but Stuart and Ezana were in as well as Egbo. Someone needs to step up. Last night was not one of Ben's best games, and unfortunately, we needed it to be. Hopefully, we'll see better at Denver, but it's going to be tough.
