ZipsVoice
Since there are a few oldsters on this board (like myself) I thought maybe somebody would remember a place's name for me.. Back in the mid 70s we used to go out to 619 to the Draft House to hear some of our favorite bands play and drink 3.2 beer. But there was another place on South Main street, south of Killian, right on the lake, where the Pelican's Cove ended up being. I think it was the old ballroom for Sandy Beach Park. It also used to have teen dances on Sunday nights. Anyone remember, and if so, anyone remember the name of the place?
Hilltopper
From an article in the Suburbanite. "Sandy Beach Park, East Reservoir — Owned and operated as an amusement park from 1919 to 1965 by “Swanee” Warensford. Then operated as Pelican Cove - a bar/restaurant before being sold to developers for upscale housing"
Hilltopper
Btw, the Draft House was also known as The Flying Machine.
ZipsVoice
Thanks Hilltopper but it was before the Pelican Cove. I read that aricle, and it left lots of holes in the area out there. This was during the Draft House days. And the Draft House was a precursor to FTM. Hilltopper
I remember going the the Flying Machine mid seventies to drink 3.2 beer. They actually had some pretty good acts like the Ramones, the Runaways and Steppenwolf. As far as the Pelican Cove property I think is sat empty for a number of years after the amusement park closed. http://clevelandrockandroll.com/?p=1643 http://wncx.cbslocal.com/2013/09/04/the-flying-machine-akron-steppenwolf/
