Let me tell you something fans:  IF THE ZIPS WOULD HAVE LOST THIS MATCH AND IF SOMEONE OTHER THAN WESTERN MICHIGAN WOULD HAVE WON THE TOURNAMENT, DOES ANYBODY THINK THAT THE COMMITTEE WOULD HAVE PUT THE WINNER PLUS AKRON PLUS WESTERN MICHIGAN IN THE TOURNAMENT???????

I've been saying that all the second half of the season....

You mean Akron won??

I was checking the video feed intermittently, saw the clock down to 2 minutes with the Zips down 1-0, and then the next time I checked the video feed was blank, so I just assumed they lost ...

Came here to commiserate. Very glad to learn I was wrong!!!

I suspect "we" must play our best contest of the season to be :champs:.    Can WMU secure a top-4 seed with the win?

With everything we've gotten screwed on over the years, wouldn't it suck if an unknown program, with no history like WMU would get a Top 4 seed?

It will be a cold day in Kalamazoo on Sunday.  Maybe not as cold as today, but it's probably not the kind of weather that everyone would hope to have to maximize our ability to execute.

I'm not sure why the hostility with the all caps. None of us will know for sure how that would have played out. With rpi & rankings as they are, the committee may have had no choice. And by the way, Akron has a contemporary reputation in NCAA soccer that would have made it almost impossible for the committee not to have put the ZIps in the tournament in this situation. You cannot compare Zips' Mens Soccer ability to get into the tournament with Mens Basketball's. Zips Mens soccer actually defeats Top 25 teams.

Not if WMU wins the MAC Tournament. [Top 4 seed would be deserved.]

You sound like the ACC weenies when the Zips got the #1 seed in 2009. They were talking differently when it was over even though Akron was runner up. (0 goals given up in 2009 NCAA Tournament)

ACC Weenie?

I'm talking about how many times Akron should have been seeded higher after winning the MAC Tourney.  I wouldn't expect a "new" MAC tourney champ with no history to be given something favorable that Akron often was never able to get.

When did "deserved" start appearing like the major criteria of the selection committee when evaluating the MAC tourney champ?

I recall 1 year under Caleb Porter that the Zips should have been seeded higher than we were. If you're going back to Ken Lolla days, I'm not sure the RPI supported your claim.

I would still contend that the Zips' recent soccer reputation as well as RPI would have gotten us into the NCAA Tourney even with a loss today and a team other than WMU winning the MAC Tourney. Thankfully, however, we don't need to be concerned about that scenario.

I never watched an Akron soccer game when Ken Lolla was here :D

Yes, thankful we won today and didn't have the scenario that you're talking about.   But, I was just addressing why you think the committee would suddenly give a Top 4 seed to a team that's never been in the mix before, and is coming out of the MAC.  I'd be shocked if that happens.
