Petition to get the BG game moved to 6

Why does it start at 1? This is going to hurt attendance. I'd like to organize another tailgating fiesta but I don't get out of class until 11:45. Plus, how many students would I be able to get out there around 10 in the morning? I'll be at the game, but I think the time for this game sucks. They should move it to 6.

I could care less about what time the Suckeyes play, did they even win last week? I could care less about them. I called out a bunch of children and adults wearing OSU clothes at the Akron game. I told them, "wrong stadium." To be honest with you, I'd rather not see those people at the games if they're too poor to buy any Akron gear before the game. They obviously wasted there money on luckeye crap.Akron needs its own identity. Ohio.com is garbage. Another week of supporting the city of Columbus. When are they going to support the city of Akron? It's the whole 1:00 pm Akron game that sucks. It's really going to hurt attendance having the game so early. the 6:00 games work out great for students. Especially when the game is over, you go home, change, and then party right after.

Personally, I don't get the uproar. A 1 pm start will be nice, it's been a while since we've had a day game. I have been to many Zip's games in the afternoon. Why are you so sure that it will hurt attendance? When did it become a rule that all the games had to be in the evening? It will be warmer than at night and it may be more convenient for some fans who have families. 10 am, 1, 6 or 7 pm, makes no difference to me.

I think the students prefer the late games to be honest with you. I can't tailgate for the BG game because I've already missed my Saturday class 4 times, one more = bad grade. I'll still be at the game though. I like the games being at 6. Gives more time for tailgating.

The later it gets in the season the better day games become. Personally a little later in the afternoon is best - say 2:30 or 3:00. You're still tailgating in the warm of the day, and starting the game at the warmest. Plus more people are done with their kids activities and sports by that time. 1:00 is not ideal, but it ain't that bad, either.

I prefer night games, although I understand why its an earlier game...won't be as cold. So I'm kind of indifferent on it.One thing bobby, and I'm really not going to get into the whole OSU thing with you again, because we obviously disagree and I do totally respect your opinions...BUT:"I called out a bunch of children and adults wearing OSU clothes at the Akron game."Please tell me you aren't really bugging little kids about this. Adults? Fine...but leave the kids alone man.

There is no reason at all why anyone should be wearing OSU stuff at an Akron football game. If telling them "Wrong Stadium" was mean, oh well. I'd do it again if I was sober.
Excellent job. Alienate the fans who are showing up! :iws: If you are treating OUR fans that way, what the hell do you do to the visiting fans? They really are in the wrong stadium , after all. Right?

...but, at this University, student attendance is in the minority. More fans from the community come to the games than students. Loot at the tailgating attendance. There aren't more than 1,000 people there. I agree it would be better for you and me since we tailgate, but the other 14,000+ people don't. And they hopefully would come with the family which means more ticket sales. My wife and young son stayed home Saturday just because of the temperature. That would have been 2 more ticket sales if it was a 1PM game. Plus, getting students out at 10Am shouldn't be much of an issue.... as long as you have beer! ;)

But once again. the RB doesn't sell beer, so there went that ides out the window
The RB does sell beer. $2.00 per cup Coors Light. If you don't like it, stuff a couple cans of your own in your jacket.Beer availability has as much affect on the Zips football attendance as the paint color in the Rubber Bowl bathrooms.

The reason for poor attendance is anything other than the poor performance of the football team.It is no beer sales, OSU playing, people spending money on the Browns, day games, gremlins kidnapping the student body every weekend, bla, bla, bla.Win some damn games consistently and people will attend....................We, as true Zip fans, feel 7-5 is a great season. Most non current fans do not...

:iws: Winning is what does it. This town hasn't had a consistent winner for a VERY long time. We have to be good a be good for a while before we will see more attendance figures. In my last two podcasts I keep saying we should have at least 20,000 butts in the seat. I think that is reasonable, but we are right around 16 - 17k. I try to do my part and bring (sometimes drag) people with me to games.Think about this: in a town like Columbus, they have had winners for so long, it is part of the culture. In Akron it is not part of the culture yet. You can do whatever gimmick you want to get them out, but the team has to be good AND consistent on the field. :thumb:

I don't know if the culture is that important.I use the Indians as an example. When they started winning, the place sold out for 2 years in a row. I know the new stadium had something to do with it too. However, the winning was the real difference. If it was just the stadium, that would have worn off after the first 1-2 years. Now the Indians suck again, and the attendance is way down. if they start winning, the sell outs will come back IMHO

Has anybody been to a Browns game lately? Granted, they are not sellouts, but the stadium is full. Pretty sure they have not had a winning season in.....will a hell of a long time. The have a new stadium, it sells beer, and they have afternoon games. The "no winning" and "afternoon games" are all a bunch of excuses. People go for the stadium experience. There is great tailgating, fun souvenirs in the new stadium, and a crowd that cheers! That is why people go to the games. FOR THE FUN OF IT!! Granted, it's ALWAYS nice when your team wins, but the Browns are 1-5 this season and they still get a good crowd for their games. The Zips had a great season last year, and they were no where near selling out for the last games of last season, OR the first home game of this season! Until the University creates a fun environment, the fans will not want to come. It takes the spending of some money in order to get a return on it, and as anyone can see with the spending of money on the rest of the campus, they are now seeing a huge return on it!

"The Zips had a great season last year"You call 7-5 a great season? At quite a few schools, the coach would be on the hot seat for that record. That is my point. We, as fans, see that as great. Casual observers, (fairweather fans) see it as same old "Akron U". We know it is an improvement. They don'tBeing neutral, 7-5 is not a great season. It isn't even a good season. Once we get to the point where 7-5 is a rebuilding, down year, we will be considered a good team.Comparing the Browns to UA football is apples and oranges. They are a pro team that has a lot of history and tradition. Cleveland and NE Ohio is a football area. People are brought up as Browns fans. People need to learn to be UA fans. The consistent mediocre years and lack of energy will not bring anyone in to see the team.It still amazes me that most students don't attend games. Even once we get a new stadium, by year 3, if we aren't winning, the attendance will drop big time.

Yes, winning your first MAC championship in school HISTORY is a great year.Yes, going to your first division I bowl game in school HISTORY is a great year.Win and put a new stadium on campus and people will come.I'm not sure what the debate is, the stadium is going to come no matter what you or I type.
