Zip Publicity, Free of Charge

I’m sure a number of you have probably noticed the recent FATHEAD commercial for removable collegiate décor in which Zippy is briefly seen battling Brutus the Buckeye on the sidelines (must have been during the 2002 game when Charlie was a sophomore). Most of the other schools referenced in the ad are from the so-called power conferences, so I thought it was nice for the University and the athletic program to get what I figure is a nice piece of “free” publicity. This got me to thinking about other sources of free Zip publicity over the years. I recall being able to see a blue and gold Akron pennant from certain angles in Arnold’s, the famous hangout for Richie, the Fonz and others on Happy Days. Does anyone else have any recollection of this and/or other Zip TV references (outside of actual sports broadcasts, of course)? :champs:

I think that such sightings have been few and far between because the Zips merchandise had been so f-ing shoddy for decades. It's tough to get placement anywhere when no one wants to wear your polyester clothing with 3-rd grade logos. The visibility of U of A logo'd things is exponentially higher than ever before. I see Zips stuff in airports, at Indians' games...and when I wear mine, people recognize it. A lot of that has to do with the football team's exposure last season.BTW - I noticed a lot of nice U of A gear on sale lately. Shirts that were $50.00 are now $25.00. Sweatshirts that were $60.00 are now $30.00. Is there another logo change on the horizon (is this a clearance sale?)? Has the sales volume of the old gear driven the price down? I'm curious.

i couldn't agree more...BTW i was wondering about the price drop as well, i figured it was because Christmas was on the way but your comments do raise an eyebrow.

Pretty sure it's due to volume. Definately not a new logo in the future...If I recall right the U spent many thousands of dollars to hire a marketing company to come up with what we have now. Could be "between season" clearance when they're comin up with somethin "new" versions of the same thing. RowdyZip works retail. :D

Perchance, could a 5-5 football team have anything to do with that??
