GP1
Could someone please look to see how many either blocked punts or missed snaps on the punt we have had in the six games the Zips have lost? I can think of PSU and last night for sure.
ziptrumpet87
at least one blocked that I can remember in the home opener against NT...
Big Zip
This was a topic from game one of the this year -- special teams. I still think JD should probably hire a special teams coach.
ZipAnalyst
The full blown reality is that no matter how many "kicking game" miscues the Zips have had (and there have been far too many) the "fundamental problems" of this team reaches far beyond punting and kicking field goals and extra points.JD Brookhart has on his hands one of the poorest teams I can remember in terms of the basics of the game. I would put this team on a par with the Faust coached teams. And what was Faust's forte - he was a good recruiter!
GP1
Does anyone know the answer to my original question?
Blue & Gold
Sadly, I agree. This team is fundamentally awful. In all seriousness, this Zips team is an embarassment to all of D-1 college football. I took a few friends to the Barley House to watch the game last night and they commented about Akron's O-line jumping offside. Fortunately they haven't seen any other Zips games, or they would have been laughing hysterically, crying uncontrollably, or pulling their hair out. I have had all 3 reactions this year. The false starts, the holding, the unsportsman-like conduct penalties, all have been destroying our season ALL-YEAR-LONG and there seems to be no corrective anywhere on the horizon. I've seen high school teams look far more disciplined and fundamentally sound, which is, as I said a disgrace and an embarassment for all of D-1 football. ZipAnalyst
GP1 gets us back on point. "Just the facts, mam, just the facts" (a la Joe Friday [Jack Webb] of Dragnet). Captain Kangaroo is a good "facts" man, maybe he can answer this question GP1. Where is the Captain when you need him?
Buckzip
Our special teams suck...............................................
Captain Kangaroo
GP1 gets us back on point. "Just the facts, mam, just the facts" (a la Joe Friday [Jack Webb] of Dragnet). Captain Kangaroo is a good "facts" man, maybe he can answer this question GP1. Where is the Captain when you need him? I just haven't had the time to put any post-game thoughts together. I hope to put something up this weekend. I'll need something to do during the *yawn* Ohio State / Michigan game.Quickly on punting - Giachetti has pretty much impersonated Steve Sax all season, with just a touch of Rick Ankiel thrown in for good measure. His snaps have gone everywhere except near Stec's hands. Stec has been sub-par all season too. His mechanics are slow, and his leg strength is mediocre at best. You'd have figured if we brought a punter all the way from Florida to Akron that he'd be something "special." I'm guessing there are several local high schools with punters equivalent to, or better than Stec. Our punt blocking has also been terrible. Add it all up - the punting game has been a debacle this season. Hey...on the rare occasion that we've actually fielded a snap cleanly and punted unmolested...at least our coverage has been fine.On a semi-related topic - can someone other than JD tell me if they though McClain could kick a 48 yard field goal? liljc
can someone other than JD tell me if they though McClain could kick a 48 yard field goal?Yea, looks like 47 yards is his limit ....now we know
ziptrumpet87
what was wrong with Domonkos? his leg is stronger and he seemed to be able to hit the long ones, but not the XP's.
RACER
please.saying the zips are an embararassment is really overdramatic. i don't think everyone at the osu/michigan game is saying."i watched the zips on espn u ,and they are an embarassment to d-1 football.first of all the truth is very few people attend our games, watch on tv ,or even care about akron football. the only thing that will get us noticed is winning.until we do that very few people follow the program enough to even make a statment like that.
