ZachTheZip
This is according to the sagarin ratings, since I can't find an RPI rating yet.As of Dec 5 at 12:05 PMAkron #80Teams in D-1 we've played:Arkansas-Little Rock #226Gardner-Webb #323Niagara #263Oral Roberts #121Our remaining OOC schedule:Binghamton #268Winston-Salem #334Illinois-Chicago #182St. Francis (PA) #302Nevada #12Loyola Marymount #122Youngstown State #264Duquesne #243MAC conference:Can't State #73Buffalo #114Toledo #117Miami #119Ohio #123WMU #133NIU #141Ball State #191Bowling Green #201CMU #215EMU #274These numbers will change dramatically before the conference schedule starts, which is basically when your RPI is set for the rest of the season. We have to beat Nevada, and win out.(I will update this as often as I can. Teams will play other teams, and the more different teams hook up, the more complex and accurate these ratings will become)
johnnyzip84
I personally think the game at Illinois-Chicago could be difficult. They are unbeaten at home so far this year.
w00t
Ouch... either we win against Nevada or we don't have a leg to stand on in making a case for an at-large bid.
ZachTheZip
It doesn't help that the MAC has only 6 teams with winning records, even though the conference schedules supposedly weak OOC teams.

ZachTheZip
Here is an approximation of the RPI (UA = #187 here)RPI approximation siteThey also have Pomeroy Ratings and some other analysis. That site is almost a mirror of the AP poll right now. As I said, these numbers will change significantly as the season goes on. Nevada is still the one true non-conference test for the Zips. Thanf goodness it is at the JAR. Maybe we will get a good Bracket Buster game to give us a boost.
Bleacher Bum
We're gonna need to rock Nevada! All the Rowdies better come back to campus from break for this one. There should be a line wrapping around the JAR, like last year's Can't game!
Balki Bartokomous
these ratings don't mean squat. I mean Can't lost to Cleveland State yet they are 7 slots ahead of us. It basically comes down to if we beat Nevada then we dance. simple as that.off the subject, watching NBA tonight, Carlos Boozer has the biggest damn eyebrows ever. like a freaking sasquatch. RowdyZip
INTERESTING RESULT FROM TONIGHThmmm...maybe we shouldnt look ahead to nevada...
johnnyzip84
I agree, UIC will be no gimme. The Horizon is making a strong push to become the next "Valley". I think this result also points out one other thing. The MAC West looks pretty awful right now. Western's had a few decent wins (Va Tech), but also a few bad losses. I guess I have to agree that the Nevada game is a must win to earn an at-large berth (if needed).

johnnyzip84
I think we dropped because Arkansas-Little Rock is dropping like one.......a Rock that is. I don't think this one loss will keep us out, as long as we keep winning.

Beating Winston-Salem could actually hurt us, but not as much as losing to them. They are a very bad team, so look for a HUGE blowout at home tomorrow. This saturday is sort of like a Super-Saturday for college men's BB. Just look at the schedule. Does anyone here know if any of our games will be on TV (not ESPNU)? zip81
Ouch... either we win against Nevada or we don't have a leg to stand on in making a case for an at-large bid. I don't think there is any way we would get an at-large bid to the show with this type of non-conf schedule. No, I'm afraid we have to win the MAC. Otherwise, it's the NIT....again. ZipAnalyst
Zip81 is right on the money!I don't think there is any way we would get an at-large bid to the show with this type of non-conf schedule.Just listen to KD being interviewed by French post-game. He says as much. He unmistakably implies (on my read) that the non-MAC part of the schedule is being used to prepare the starting five and whatever bench players he can bring along to march through the MAC schedule and win the tournament and get the NCAA bid.The only chance for the MAC to get an at large is if the Zips win the tournament and the second place team is a team with some strength to its non-league schedule. zipsbandman
If anyone is paying attention, Buffalo is upsetting the #2 team in the country at alumni arena! I hear the place is nuts. With that said, I think we can take Nevada. We are very strong at home and if we pack the JAR and make some serious noise we can help our team out. zipsbandman
Okay so they didn't pull it out, but they played neck and neck with the second best team in the country. It just goes to show what home court can do.

Otherwise, it's the NIT....again. I think we can. We'd need to make the MAC finals for sure. And, we'd need to beat whomever we play in the February bracket buster game. Assuming we have 3 or fewer losses going into the Feb Bracket buster selection day, we will play a very highly rated opponent. And we'll probably play them at the JAR. A 24-or-so win season with wins over Nevada and someone like Butler would give us a legit case for an at-large bid even if we slipped late in the MAC tourney. Those will be two top-25 teams at year's end.
