timmyboy
WHO DO YOU FEEL HAS MADE A BIGGER IMPACT ON THE PROGRAMS SINCE JOINING... JD BROOKHART, OR KEITH DAMBROT??BOTH OF THEM HAVE VERY GOOD ARGUMENTS AS TO WHO MADE A BIGGER IMPACT.JD JOINED THE ZIPS AND HAS HAD 2 OF THE BEST RECRUITING CLASSES IN THE MAC, HE TOOK THEM TO THEIR FIRST EVER MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ( AND WON IT), THEIR FIRST EVER BOWL GAME (SINCE JOINING D1) ALSO. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN LEE OWENS LEFT AND BROOKHART CAME, THE ZIPS DID HAVE A WINNING RECORD.KEITH DAMBROT HAS BROUGHT A SENCE OF DISCIPLINE TO THE TEAM, AND HAS ALSO HAD SOME OF THE BEST RECRUITING CLASSES IN THE MAC. HE HAS PROVEN HE CAN BEAT Can't STATE AND HE HAS TAKEN THE ZIPS TO THEIR FIRST POSTSEASON TOURNEY IN A LONG TIME. WHEN DAMBROT CAME THE ZIPS WERENT VERY GOOD AT ALL, AND HE HAS CHANGED THE FACE FOR ZIPS BASKETBALL.SO NOW PEOPLE LETS HEAR WHO YOU THINK HAS MADE A BIGGER IMPACT.... zen
I'd rather just give props to both of them.Honestly, you gotta like the progress and results that both have delivered.Although this season was a touch disappointing in football, I honestly get the sense that things game together wrong, and next year will be different. JD got a bowl bid.KD got a tourney invite.I guess that's why I wan't to give props to both and just say, lets have this discussion in a few years. RACER
kd is ten times the coaches jd is. kd is building a program for the long haul here at akron.the b-ball teams beats up lesser opponents. the football team struggles most of the time not matter who we play.we won a mac championship in football with just over 500.00 win %. you'll never see that in mac basketball.the big thing for me kd wants to be here.jd is gone the first time he gets a better offer. timmyboy
i agree. if a school from a larger bcs school came calling to jd, he would be gone before akron could even try to talk him into stayin. kd is a true akron man having lived in akron and coached in akron more then once in his career as a head coach. Dr Z
What coach has won the MAC? What coach has not? What coach has made it to post season play? What coach has not? What coach has won against a big time school? What coach has not?You can like and or dislike a coach for many different reasons, but what it boils down to is results.PS I hope the above statements change come March 07. Hugo1306
All im going to say is if Coach Wanted the big dollars He would of stayed in his other buisness. Also your telling me if KD got a call from a Tradition rich basketball program he would turn it down. WOW.
Zip Watcher
Seems to me both have had made strides in their respective programs. What coach has won the MAC? What coach has not?Agreed. What coach has made it to post season play? What coach has not? Both HAVE made postseason play. Now, which coach has a postseason victory? What coach has won against a big time school? What coach has not? Both have beaten BCS level competition. Mississippi St. last year in BB is IMHO the equivalent of NC St. in FB this year. Both were good wins when they happened .. and both opponents ended up sucking ass that season.Go Zips! Zip Watcher
Also your telling me if KD got a call from a Tradition rich basketball program he would turn it down. WOW. That's not just what the poster is saying .. it's what KEITH is saying. When you get here Hugo, you'll find that UA IS tradition rich .. and KD is bringing that back. He's where he wants to be. So long as Buchtel Hall doesn't pull the rug out from under him (see: Huggins), KD wants to be here.
Dr Z
What coach has made it to post season play? What coach has not? Both HAVE made postseason play.I guess technically you are correct, but IMHO, NIT is like kissing your sister, it's a step, but not the dance. Win the MAC and get a real bid. Then you will see the fans like we did in the Zips bowl game.
Zip Watcher
NIT is postseason play & postseason experience. Waters built his Can't State clubs on the experience they gained playing on the road against good competition in the NIT. It's not the big dance, sure .. but early in the buildup of a program with young kids, sometimes it's the better outcome. Getting the chance to play multiple games vs. a round 1 blowout at the hands of an elite team helped the Zips last year. Going NIT is not always a bad outcome. And let's face it, the MCB isn't exactly the top of the mountain for a MAC FB team either. Boise & Utah have shown that dominating your schedule & playing (& beating) some top flight OOC foes will get a mid major beyond the Backyard.com bowl or whatever the "champ" gets .. if playing Memphis in Detroit is the pinnacle of success for Zips football, I think the bar is set a little too low.Ultimately, I guess it's perspective. Is your goal each year to win the MAC? Or does your goal go beyond the conference you play in? I think these questions illustrate a difference between our mindsets. RACER
which coach is going to have a losing record this year?
ZippyAlum
Give me a break!! Our soccer team came through with a kicker when we needed it this year and really helped out the football team. I think both our coaches need all our support not senseless competition between them. Akron has enough formidable opponents without adding tension between our own programs!!!
Captain Kangaroo
Give me a break!! Our soccer team came through with a kicker when we needed it this year and really helped out the football team. By "the football team," do you mean our opponent? Domonokos and McClain were a wash...they both missed a ton of kicks. Domonokos' just missed at a faster speed, and traveled further.
ZippyAlum
McClain was 4-6 in FGs and 9-11 in kicks. Sure it's not great but it's pretty good considering that it was a "part time" commitment. He goes to practice on a Tuesday and is in kicking that Saturday. And I think it was extremely big on the part of the soccer coach to allow this kid to play.
GP1
Akron has enough formidable opponents without adding tension between our own programs!!! Agreed! This nonsense has gone back to one of the greatest myths about UofA sports and that is Huggins would have stayed at Akron of Faust was not hired. There are actually a few good myths about UofA sports. Perhaps a topic is in order...even a poll.

And oh, by the way GP1, I agree that Huggins wouldn't have stayed if Faust were not hired. But he would have stayed longer, and that's not a myth!
