Dr Z
Browns quarterback Charlie Frye had an awkward moment after presenting the outstanding college athlete award, won by Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith from Ohio State.Smith, in a taped acceptance speech, said, “Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to represent you guys at the next level for the Browns.”After his presentation, Frye said he spent time Monday with new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and that he’s happy to be starting with a clean slate, a new coach who doesn’t know anybody yet and another chance to prove himself. He said he’s not worried about the Browns drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 or No. 4 pick (depending on the coin flip with Tampa Bay). “If you’re worried about that, you’re worrying about the wrong things,” he said. He also said, "I watched the tape of the BCS championship game, I'm not real worried about Smith"Source (cleek here)
ZachTheZip
The Browns do not need another QB. They need a line to protect the one that they have. If for some reason they did draft Smith, he would end up like all the other QBs who came before him: physically destroyed within 3 years. If the Browns draft Smith, I think I might stop being a fan. goodthts
If the Browns draft Smith, I think I might stop being a fanAGREED! They DO NOT need a QB. OL? big timeDL? yesOLB? yes, one that can defend the run. Wimbley is a pass rush guyQB? maybe a nice 3rd/4th rd guy outta a BCS conference. If they draft Smith or the RB out of Oklahoma...I'm a fan no more. Either of those picks would be popularity picks. blueandgold
The Browns are going to take Adrian Peterson RB from Oklahoma, but they should take Joe Thomas OT from Wisconsin or trade down to get Levi Brown OT from PSU or even Paul Posluszny OLB from PSU. Anything else is stupid. They will not take Smith unless he drops like a rock into the 3rd round.
zip81
If anything, I'm concerned for Charlie.Unless the Browns pick up the right people, all they're going to do is ruin another good quarterback.Charlie needs some work...making better decisions, taking care of the ball and stop telegraphing his passes...I know he'll do it....if he gets an OL.He's a hard worker with the right attitude.... Balki Bartokomous
Hey also said, "I watched the tape of the BCS championship game, I'm not real worried about Smith" Frye deserves a slow clap for that gem.
zipseuph
Smith, in a taped acceptance speech, said, “Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to represent you guys at the next level for the Browns.”this to me just shows a lack of class from Troy Smith. I think the Browns eather need to draft someone for the OL or someone for to play back in the secondary on defense. after all the people we had get hurt in the secondary we could use some people. zen
I heard charlie on the radio yesterday say that the new offensive coordinator likes to run an attack style offense and likes to keep the defense on their toes and spread out and this is what I have been calling for FOR YEARS. I hope it's for real.BTW, Frye's barb against Smith is hilarious.
Dr Z
If I were Charlie Frye, I would want my team to draft:1st Round -- Calvin Johnson (best player in the draft, might be there at 3, but not at 4, if TB gets a shot at him they take him)2nd Round -- Joe Staley
Valpo Zip
If i am phil savage, i will draft:1- Joe Thomas OT, Wisconsin.2- Paul Poslouzny (sp?) OLB, Penn state3- The best available RB4- Andy Alleman, OG, Akron

The need OL help more than anything else. Sorry Andy, I really don't wish the Browns curse on you. In fact, now I wish that Charlie had not been drafted by the Browns. They are my team, but they are a TERRIBLE football organization.
GP1
If the Browns are smart (which the aren't), they will bring in a veteran QB to start next year. Make Frye and Anderson compete for the #2 spot. Sign a scrub to be #3. Cut the loser of the #2 competition. Beef up the OL to protect the veteranMore than anything, the Browns need a QB who can throw the ball down field and can complete passes under pressure. It's the chicken or the egg argument. The Browns don't have an OL so teams pressure the QB. If the QBs would complete passes under pressure, teams would have to stop attacking. If teams stop attacking, it opens up the running game. The NFL is a QB oriented league and the QBs the Browns have now are woefully inadequate.I've never thought much of Frye's abilities and I think he played his way out of a starting position with the Browns last year. In fact, I think he played his way out of being the next Kelly Holcomb and his career is coming to a close in the next 2 years (This opinion was confirmed when I heard Terry Pluto say this year Frye would be in the NFL 10 years). He doesn't throw down field, if it wasn't for that little 5 yard pass to Winslow he would complete very few passes, he loses too many yards when he gets sacked, he fumbles every other time he gets sacked and he is slow mentally. Losing yards and fumbling destroy any chances of winning and he does too much of both.Browns fans are not going to be patient waiting for a third year QB to develop into an average QB over the next 2-3 years and at this point they shouldn't be patient. Remember how we all sat around for four years waiting for him to develop into a championship QB? We're still waiting. Average QBs are a dime a dozen, the Browns could pick up an average veteran and have a better QB than what they have with Frye and Anderson who are both well below average. The NFL is not kind to players, especially QBs. I think Frye is in trouble.

I find it hilarious that he's knocking Smith's performance in a national title game when he never even led the team to a conference title. Frye is a classless joke of a QB...I'm not sure the Browns need Smith, but they need to find a QB who can start in the league...Frye most certainly cannot. timmyboy
Ive hung out with charlie a few times back when he was here at akron an he was always a cool guy to me.... maybe it was a front, who knows. but i know that if akron were to have a line to keep him safe for longer then .4 seconds, he would be doing a heck of a lot better. Two years ago we were tailgating at a Zips game in the afternoon...not many people at all outside the stadium. Charlie Frye shows up and is just kind of chilling in a lawn chair. After some time, two of my buddies decide to go ask Frye to take a picture with them. They ask nicely and he kind of grudgingly mumbles an "OK". My buddy asks a girl sitting with Frye (we think his sister) to take the picture. She says OK and takes the camera. They set up the shot (Charlie basically refusing to smile), and right before she's about to click the button, she points it down at their crotches and takes the picture. She laughs at my stunned/confused friends, as does Charlie...she hands them the camera and her and Frye both sit back down. One of my friends kind of asks "what the hell?", only to basically be ignored. I mean hey...I've never hung out with the guy, so maybe (hopefully) this was an isolated incident. But for him to pull that crap on some Akron fans/students was classless as can be. Like I said, he might very well be a great guy...but I have trouble rooting the guy on ever since I witnessed that crap two years ago. Anyone who has hung around Charlie knows that he doesnt smile much. so dont take offense to that. Did your friends ask him directly why he didnt take a picture with them? maybe if you had he would have taken another one. Charlie's done alot while at akron from going to childrens hospital during christmas time to spend time with the kids, going to different charity events and signing autographs for kids an all other fans. i think maybe your incident was an isolated one, because he just doesnt seem like the guy who would do somthing like that to be an a$$.
