Vincent Hill

Recommended Posts

Rivals.com recently showed Vincent Hill de"verballing" with us and committing to UVa. However, the site had shown him as their verbal and now, his alleged commit to Uva is no longer. He is still shown by Rivals as "High" on UVa and the U of A. Is anyone hearing anything about this young man or does it look like it will be a signing day decision?Go Zips!!

As stated here, we probably won't know until Signing Day whether or not he'll be a Zip. UVA is not a "done deal" for him.Click

It's Rivals, and they know nothing. They change players' ratings depending on who they commit to, so take everything they say with a grain of salt.
Ha! This is so true! I've watched them do this repeatedly over the last few years! They consistently change their rankings of players according to what university expresses interest in them and who they give a verbal to. I don't know if Rivals actually has an opinion of their own or not!

In checking a source at UVa it appears that Hill did not qualify there and would conceivably be enrolling with the Cavaliers in '08. That may have caused him to re-think his decision to de-verbal with us and commit to them. Grade issues are also the case with Almondo Sewell, a three star linebacker who committed to UVa out of Hargrave Military Academy who had been linked to the Zips along the recruiting trail. Does anyone know if we are still (or were ever) pursuing Sewell? If so, I hope we can get these young men qualified and finish recruiting strong.Go Zips!!

This is from a Virgina newspaperWith Chapman out, the Cavaliers have 25 commitments, counting linebacker Romale Tucker from Washington, D.C., but not counting wide receiver Vincent Hill from Fort Washington, Md. It has been reported that Tucker has made a second oral commitment, to Syracuse, but he was at UVa last weekend.Hill has said he will sign with Akron if he qualifies academically; otherwise, he will enroll at Hargrave or Fork Union next summer and re-open his recruiting.

I trust myself more than I do a Virginia newspaper. ;) After the rollercoaster ride Vince has taken us on, who knows what tomorrow might bring...but as of today Feb 1st, 2007, I guarantee 100% he reconfirmed his commitment to the Zips.

Capn' - I think the article does say that he is committed to Akron......as long as he gets qualified. Otherwise he will go to a prep school and then who knows what will happen for the 2008 recruiting class.

Rivals.com now has Vince Hill back to a soild verbal to the Zips!!!! That gives yet anohter 3 star......
That makes SEVEN *** recruits for this class. Just wait until tomorrow, hopefully we will get even more. This is the best recruiting class for any team in the MAC since UCF had nine ***s in 2003!

To play devil's advocate here........................UCF then went 0-11 in 2004, and despite going 8-5 in 2005 they were just 4-8 again in 2006. They are a total of 11-24 since signing those 9 three star players. The point is that the school with the top class in the MAC usually doesn't win the MAC in the next couple of years despite the ranking by the recruiting services. In my eyes Akron has a great class. However, Miami University has an exceptionally great class and they are not rated that high on the recruiting services in terms of three star players. They have several players that I really believe should be rated higher. And playing devil's advocate to that, you never know how a high school prospect is going to turn out on the playing field in college.

Fair enough. Honestly, I am just using this as an excuse to celebrate after a dissapointing season last year. I know the recruiting services are not all that reliable when it comes to how they rank prospects, but I have seen a few of these guys play and I can see them doing very well in college football.

yes we did get great players in moore and williams, but we have sewell now a 3 star linebacker who is so tough he eats nails for lunch lol. i cant wait to see this guy on the field. he is probably the best linebacker akron has ever signed.
I've heard hype about Sewell and I've heard "he's just decent to good." IMO, Aaron Williams is a better player.
