Captain Kangaroo Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 PD's Elton Alexander says Nate broke two fingers on his left (shooting) hand Saturday. He could be done for the season.Conyers will definitely get extended minutes this week. Can McKnight help too? He has a decent outside shot, so I'm thinking he may get some minutes at small forward too?Not what we needed... Quote
blueandgold Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 That's bad news for Nate. This will turn out to be good for the team though. Now it is time for the bench guys to show us why they are on the team. We've been second guessing a lot of them most of the season. Let's see what they can do. It's crunch time now. Time to step up. We will see some of our future starters for next year getting extended minutes. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Holy Crap ! What a way to start my day. Quote
skip-zip Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Wow. Not a player I am very fond of because I think he underproduces. But, he's experienced, and he hustles out there. The biggest problem is that it leaves us with one less option. Look for us to start 3 guards, and have a little bit less depth from here on out. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Take his minutes and split them between Jimmy & Chris. Get them out there extended time against (solid) competition. Jimmy has shown he can defend .. he doesn't need to be the first option in the offense, but he needs a chance to get into and stay in the flow of a game .. he hasn't had that since the YTown game. A 6 man rotation is a sure way to end the season on March 8th or 9th. Quote
zipsbandman Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 I am not a big Linhart fan, but this is a total disaster. Conyers cannot step in. He doesn't even know what he's doing. McKnight is still young. Man, this makes me Quote

It will be tempting as he tries to win every game to fall back on this lineup but it hurts us later. He has said it all season - it's all about the MAC Tourney - Now, we will see if he listens to himself or not. McKnight and Conyers should be on the floor ALOT versus the Dukes and Buffalo. This is much needed experience for the three game tourney run and saves Cedric, Dials, and Dru's legs. Let's hope he doesnt use the short leash with Chris/Jimmy. Let them make some mistakes and get into the flow of the game. The experiance will be huge later. I'd also to see Milum get some additional minutes early this week while resting Wood and Travis. We need Quade back to his midseason form. Last year at the end, he came on so strong - this year, he's fading. We need his defense and shot intimidation.BTW. On the Can't game -- completely different story, no resting, no messing with lineups, play it like you are in Cleveland already and make a statement for the tourney. I know inevitably the topic of beating a team 3 times in one season will come up but UA needs some confidence that they can beat good teams away from the JAR. Quote
bigzipguy Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Z-Pouch: Agree with your comment that Milum MUST regain his mid-season form. Also start giving Conyers and McKnight a lot more minutes, we will need them at the Q Quote
hoopla Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 not that this makes any difference, but i heard that it was just one finger. his thumb at that. also heard that he will be out for this game but will be back after 2 or 3 games. i think this could be a neg turned to possitive if we can get off to early leads in each of those games. if not, our guards could get tired in playing in close situations. and they are the ones that need to be in the game in those situations. with that said, big props to Nate for finishing that game out with a boken finger/thumb/whatever. Really worked good.Anyway KD said exactly what you stated, then he said "but I know me, I get so competitive I just don't like to lose"Kind of a funny comment, but very telling. Quote

While Linhart is not the same caliber as some of the other starters, I don't think he is as bad a many this board seem to feel. I watched him Saturday and I thought he was sick, didn't realize it was pain. Am impressed that he played and played as well as he did with that fracture. Quote
RowdyZip Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Talked to Nate at the Duquesne game. He confirmed that it was just the thumb. He had ice on it off and on during the game, wasnt dressed and told us he'd be back thursday. I'm not sure if that's buffalo or for the tournament. That earns some respect in my book... Quote
GoZips88 Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I wonder if the docs can stabilize/protect the thumb enough to allow him to continue to play without risking further injury? Would love to have his defensive enthusiasm and offensive/defensive rebounding available for the MAC tourney. His shooting has been off this year so we wouldn't be missing much there. Agree that Conyers and McKnight are there and should get some minutes Thursday in Buffalo and Sunday in Can't but I'd still like to have Linhart's heart, desire, and experience as an option as well. Quote
hoopla Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Mcknight is not going to be taking any of nates minutes. He is not a 3 man at all. cant handle the ball or even pretend to guard a 3 man. it is conyers, rybac, and dials. yes he can shoot, but there is a lot more to the possition than that. Quote
