Bleacher Bum
I was at the game tonight and wanted to commend the Rowdies on an awesome job! You guys were great! You guys put their students to shame! Keep up the great work!!!As this season has gone on, the number of "AK-Roadies" has increased a little each game. Here's hoping that next year, we can get more and more people at road games, especially the close ones. I think it's more fun to cheer at road games and not only piss off the other team, but also their fans!Plus road games seem to be where the best cheer ideas come up. We came up with a few more on the way home. They'll debut at the Q!

You guys put their students to shame! Keep up the great work!!! I agree. The Rowdies came in loud and clear on the webcast. Excellent, excellent job.I will be very honest...I didn't think the Rowdies would have a chance to stand up against the O-zone in Cleveland next week. To me, the OU fans have always been the standard-bearers for student support in the MAC. I now believe our AK-Rowdies are ready to run with the big dogs. I actually was not impressed much by the O Zone when we went there earlier this year. There are a lot of them, but they are only loud at certain times. If anyone's ever been to Buffalo, you've seen what in my eyes is the greatest student section in the MAC...soon to be "was" the greatest student section in the MAC! Captian I have all the respect in the world for you I do and I know you are now starting to believe in the ROWDIES, I just want to point out a few things. EVERY road game I have gone to this season, (BG, OU, Niagra, EMU and now Duquesne) We have been louder then the whole building...EVEN at OU the 5 of us that were loud were being asked by the O ZONE why so quiet which means they could and did hear us through out the whole game. Same with toledo and the 50 who attended that game it took until we lost for their students to chant we cant hear you...I am headed to Buffalo Thursday I hear they are the best student section in the MAC I will judge them when I go. I do agree we can compete with the NO ZONE!!! GOOOO ZIPS!!!

Valpo Zip
Thanks for the nice words !I agree with Bleacher Bum, the OZONE people beat us quantity wise but not quality wise. Also, talking about the road, i have never seen them on the road (the Q aside). We took 50 students to Toledo. I never seen more than a handful toledo fans at the JAR. Can't brought around 20 students to the JAR, we are taking around a hundred to their house. Also, 10 students to Duquesne on a monday evening, that's decent.Kudos to the guys, especially the big guy:Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...... dddddddddeh. zipsbandman
I think the Rowdies can compete with anyone in the conference. You have to remember it is a lot harder when the group is split into two sections like it is at the JAR, but we make due with what we got. I think we will be formidable in Cleveland when we are all together. I can't wait to hound Can't State even when they are not playing us and going up against the Ozone. We do need more numbers though, but I'm sure that will come in time if Dambrot keeps us winning and the more students start living on campus with new dorms. timmyboy
IMO, i think at times that the "rowdies" are a joke. they only cheer and attend the games of the teams that are winning. I noticed at the beginning of football season... the student section was full of rowdies, but as the season went on and the weather got colder, an they werent winning like before, the amount of fans dropped big time. same thing for the basketball.they only attend the big games because they want to sit in the lower section. and they only attend the games that the team is winning ( examples being the mens basketball and womens basketball)

There are only about 30 or so true Rowdies, by my count. The rest are fair weather fans. I saw in Thursday's Buchtelite that their survey question was "How often do you attend Men's Basketball games?" One of the responses was "Never. I only support teams that win." Reading that pissed me off big time, but it also shows that people are ignorant to the Zips. We get hardly any TV coverage on the news, Akron's marketing department is effectively non-existent, and word-of-mouth fails because everybody is caught up in the Buckeyes being #1 with the Zips as an afterthought. Bleacher Bum
The organization of the Rowdies was not done very well this year during the football season. They just slapped the name "Roo Zoo" on front of our section and expected us to go crazy. Once basketball season started, things started to come together with more organization. When Matt "The Godfather" Newhouse left us for greener pastures, that is when things started sliding downhill after a great inaugural basketball season. I think we are back on the right track now that it is an official student organization. I was really looking forward to this season after the first "mandatory meeting," but it seemed like a lot of those people fell of the bandwagon way too early. Now that we have a couple of years under our belt, I think things can only get better.
skip-zip
I see some good points here. Of course, there's always room for improvement.Sure, this area is full of fair-weather fans. But I will say this. I commend the efforts of some of you folks to establish and build a student cheering organization. And Steve French was talking about you guys all night, so you must be making an impact. If can get that kind of support on the road, you're getting somewhere.

RowdyZip
Just out of curiousity...who from this board was there? Other than my fellow rowdies that travelled in our little caravan, of course.
zip81
I can't imagine people ragging on any student who shows up to support the team....even if they only come to the game they wish to attend. As someone who went to Akron when there were no such organizations, I say thank you to those who paint their faces, wear the gold T-shirts and yell till their voices are no more...no matter how many times you show up to the games. Because even if it is only once, you've already done more to support the team than 90 percent of the student population.Zippy tips his cap to you.
