timmyboy
I was looking at scout.com,at the Eligibility of some of the players and it has me worried about how we will be 2 years from now. below is the list of player we will be losing an the years.2006:D. Joyce IIIR. Travis 2007:N. Dials*N. GoddardC. MiddletonJ. SalleeZ. SowersQ. MilumJ. Wood*2008:J. ConyersN. LinhartJ. Rybak 2010:S. McNeesT. CarrollC. McKnight M. Bardo Commits:S. SwiechR. StewardMcknight ( his name wasent on the commit list, but i heard he had committed to us)Im thinking that our best ( and maybe only) chances at winning a MAC title and getting into the tourney are this season and next. Looks to me like 2 seasons from now is going to be the start of the rebuilding years for the zips again. maybe im wrong.....hopefully im wrong! what do you all think? blueandgold
Hopefully Swiech and Steward will be solid top performing starters for the 2008 season. That would give us 3 well established starters (including Linhart) and Brett McKnight as well. It will be critical that we have a solid recruiting class next year. Captain Kangaroo
Looks to me like 2 seasons from now is going to be the start of the rebuilding years for the zips again. maybe im wrong.....hopefully im wrong! what do you all think? I think we'll be better in 2007-8 than we are this season. I would be money on it. Losing Dials, Middleton, Milum, Linhart and Wood will be a blow in 2008-9, but Dambrot has historically recruited well. I'm sure the recruiting class we sign this fall will address those needs. Sweich will be a Junior at that time. Assuming he's as good as advertised that will make a huge difference in MAC competition. Dominant big men can carry a team in the MAC (Stacey, Hunter, Trent, Kaman...even Edwards).
Big Zip
I for one am extremely excited about Steward and Sweich -- I haven't read enough about McKnight yet. I think it is very rare that you read about a PG with nearly 8 assists a game in HS. Steward could be a rare athlete and shear size and numbers of Sweich make me feel really good about him. I think this team has potential to re-load and continue without missing a beat if this next class is as strong as others have predicted. zip37
BIG ZIP--- Brent McKnight is better than his brother, according to all I've been told by the staff.
unZIPped
It's BRETT McKnight
skip-zip
I think, by far, the biggest key for next year will be to get our new point guard established. Maybe that's McNees, or maybe it's Steward, but I hope they come along quickly. I still think Dials and Middleton can only handle that role in limited duty. Plus, we need both of them at that 2-guard spot. Secondly, Jeremiah Wood is going to need some help in the paint. McKnight needs to progress, and hopefully Sweich will give us some much-needed size. If this all goes well, I think we have a chance to be better than we were this year. But those are some pretty big IFS.
timmyboy
I heard alot about how good bardo was coming out of High Schoool, and i seen him at the last game. He is a big body who might be able to contribute. why isnt he playing this year? he injured?
Zip Watcher
The face of the Zips in 2 years will be illuminated by the glare of at least 1 MAC championship ring and be toughened by the experience of multiple post season victories. RowdyZip
I heard alot about how good bardo was coming out of High Schoool, and i seen him at the last game. He is a big body who might be able to contribute. why isnt he playing this year? he injured? Redshirt. Kinda wish he'd be active this year too, but with J Wood, Romeo, Quade, and Chirs McKnight vying for minutes down low, coach decided to redshirt him. And from what I understand, he wasn't quite ready for the physicality and speed of MAC play. Coach D seems to have made a great move in redshirting him, as he's progressed fantastically from practicing with the team all year. Think HUGE next year with Wood/Bardo/Swiech down low. I think the Zips may be better next year, especially if McNees/Steward can lock down the PG position.Already looking forward to next season when this one's not even over
ziprowdy
one possibility could be that we interest players from other schools to come here instead...if we put together a couple of good seasons, we might be able to draw in some other players from other schools...i know it doesnt happen very often, but its a definite possibility...also for the point guard i would like to see us pick up a true point guard instead of converting a 2 guard to a point guard...if thats not possibe we could convert a couple of our players to point guards...someone quick fast, good ball handling skills...goddard might be a good candidate for that position, or sallee perhaps...sallee is a little on the short side, but both look like quick players, and they can always improve and hone their ball handling skills...it would be best if we could convert 2 players to pg...goddard and someone else...that way goddard could be a shooting guard, and work his magic...or he could be pg and fit in that way too...what do ya think?? The point guard position is very important to next years success. However, assuming Steward comes along and can handle that position (from what I've heard it sounds like McNees is more of a 2 guard) we MAY have a bigger problem on our roster in 08-09. By then we will be without Middleton, Dials and Goddard. That leaves only McNees right now at that 2 guard position. In fact, after next year we will only have 2 guards on our roster if I'm looking at everything right. Steward and McNees.
Blue & Gold
Steward, out of Columbus, is a true point. I'm betting he comes in and wins the starting 1-spot next season.I was hoping Jimmy Conyers would be ready to contribute at the 2-guard this year, and be the man once Middleton and Dials have graduated. Jimmy just hasn't progressed well. It looks like the #1 priority for KD's recruiting efforts this year is going to have to be a legitimate 2-guard. Blue & Gold
Hey, speaking of 2-guards, has anyone seen that Moss kid from Copley play? Do you think he'd be a D-1 walk-on caliber player? He's really puts up nice numbers and he's the MVP of an undefeated team. Does anyone know anything about him?
ziprowdy
yeah i forgot about conyers my bad...if he can step up i think hell be ok...on the court he looks hesitant a lot...like if hes handling the ball...im sure in his head he knows what to do, just has trouble executing...he would be a good 2g, i dont think he has the confidence to be point...and for recruiting, maybe focus on recruiting more for guards, or small forwards...we have some good guys who be power forwards on centers, hopefully bardo will be a force to be reconned with...maybe focus on recruiting a little smaller for the future, or some mid-size guys...it seems thats where were losing the most players over the next couple years...mcnees and bardo are a couple gig guys, good potential centers and post players
