Halftime in Ft Wayne.  Scoreless game with basically equal stats.  The Mastadon(na)s were a about .500 team last season, but lost I believe only twice at home. Let's see how the second 45 goes.

65 minutes played in Ft W.  Scoreless match, but Akron now leads 14-8 in shot attempts.  Emma King has like 7 shots for the Zips.

Full 90 complete.  Nil nil draw.  Akron had slight statistical advantage on the scorekeeper app, though no possession % given.

Sunday home opener for the lady Zips is against Eastern Illinois.

in last year’s contest , E. Illinois and the zips played to a 1-1 tie.

Eastern Illinois opened their season last night with a 4-0 loss to Southern Illinois.

Luisa Fragnoli scored first for Akron on a long blast in the fifteenth minute to give the Zips the 1-0 advantage over EIU.

Akron held on to win on the basis of that early score by Fragnoli.  1-0.  Not a pretty outcome in the home opener versus a lap dog opponent.  We play @West Virginia, a national power this week.  Yikes. 😬

Akron loses 3-0 to West Virginia, a team often ranked top-20 (but not currently) which was ranked #1 and lost to USC in the College Cup Final a few years ago.

Shot attempts 19-0 WVU ... 😬

5-3 final was perhaps an "ugly win" versus a lesser opponent?  Zips were outshot 17-10.  6-2 in Corners.  But we scored the last two and held on for the victory.

What a great day at First Energy Stadium!  First trip back North in a while, and we timed it so we could see the women/men double-header.  Not sure why the two matches couldn't have been scheduled closer so more people might have come early to watch the women, but at least gave us time to hit our Fave Swenson's - and WOW!  Who knew?  There's a Swensons now by the funeral home on Exchange!!  Anyway, a pretty sizeable crowd for the women's game, and we got to meet some of the players at the autograph session afterwards.  A nice bunch of women, and so many are YOUNG!  lots of freshmen and sophs.  As for the match itself, pretty good action!  Adison Hall, a freshman scored first on a very solid goal.  The second goal was a PK, and it was warranted, by another freshman Fineen Creegan, and she didn't mess around.  Emma King's goal was a slow roller past a charging GK out of position, but it was still a heads up play by King.  The defense was a little porous, but the women didn't quit or hang their heads when the opponent scored.  Nice tempo, nice pace, some spacing needs to be addressed, and a little worried about the GK position, but a win is a win and Coach Kuhns was into it the entire match.  I'm sure she knows she's being judged, but I found her approach and management refreshing.  I'll leave the men's game analysis to the others to discuss.
