This Is The Best Thing That Could Have Happened.

Look, any NCAA appearance would have been akin to a baby seal clubbing: i.e. quick, painful and ultimately tragic. You've been spared that senseless pain so that you might focus all your simple "chimp-like" attention on vicariously celebrating a far more important matter--the glorious NCAA run of your flagship institution. As Ohioans, you are given the opportunity (no, the honor) of vicariously rooting for the state's flagship university in all its endeavors and glorious achievement.--rejoice as we take our #1 ranked team into the NCAA's--take pride in our Big Ten women's team as they enter NCAA play--thrill to our likely NCAA championships in fencing and synchronized swimming and likely strong runs in gymnastics, lacrosse and wrestling--marvel at our soaring admissions selectivity. Why right now, they're crying on the Miami board about 3.7 high school students ending up in Oxford as their safety school after being rejected by the flagship--drop to your knees in gratitude at the 650 million dollars in research funding that the flagship brought into the state last year--stand in awe of our 2 billion dollar endowmentChins up, Zippies; you got chearin' to do!Bow Down To Your Flagship!Bow Down To The One You Serve!

Chins up, Zippies; you got chearin' to do!
*cough* 42-14 *cough*Gators are not in your bracket. That means that if you can survive long enough, I'll get out the popcorn and root for a repeat embarassment for the 2nd time in several months. Now that is something to cheer for! :nutkick:

I'll say two things:1) Bow, if you have something to actually bring to discussion then great. If you're just trying to pick fights, get lost. You're making us other Akron/OSU fans look bad. 2) Zen, is it really possible to rip on OSU for losing in the National Title game when our school will never even make it to one? I'm just saying...they kind of have ultimate scoreboard on the field.

When the NCAA becomes an inter state championship where 50 teams representing 50 states are competing, then i will definitely cheer for the team representing the state of ohio... until then, i have no reason what so ever to cheer for a team that represents another university that is located in another city. In fact, reading ignorant posts like yours make me even cheer against them.

sgm405,I'm an Akron/OSU fan as well, but this is one I will be sitting out. I wish the Buckeyes well. But, I won't be watching.I didn't watch the NFL for 3 years after they stole my team from Cleveland, and I absolutely will NOT WATCH THE NCAAs without my GREATEST Zips team in at least the NCAA-(mis)operated NIT. :chair:

Are You kidding me. Ohio State is just another State institiution like ever other MAC school in Ohio. Newsflush; Just because your from Ohio does not mean you must pay homage to The Ohio State University. No one make you sing the praises of the Blue and Gold so why do I have to root for another state school. I get so tired of people telling me that i must be a buckeye fan. I am a true Akron fan and alum. I bleed blue and gold and their is no room in my heart to cheer on anyone else. Especially a state school. In fact, i say we should refer to OSU for what it actually is, THE Columbus State University. :chair:

Well said. If Bow Down's criteria was followed to it's logical conclusion, shouldn't our "flagship" university be American University? I follow Pitt athletics more closely than Ohio State. At least we're only one and a half hours from Pittsburgh. We're a good 2 hours from Columbus. Screw Columbus and whatever schools may be down there. We're from Akron!

Yes, Ohio State is nothing but another state school. It's no different than Akron or OU or BGSU :puke: . You listen too much to that nonsense that your president spews. The fact is that we know, he knows and you know that he'd crawl to Columbus on his hands and knees and toss the salad of every Ohio State trustee just to get an interview for our Presidency. So toss out the rankings. Toss out the faculty quality (to name two examples: National Academy of Sciences and Engineering members on faculty Ohio State-20; all other Ohio public schools-1/more Guggenheim Fellows on faculty at Ohio State than all other private and public universities in the state combined). Toss out the differences in admissions standards. Toss out the 2 billion dollar endowment (quality costs money, boys). Believe what you want to believe.

Robbed by the ZipsLOL, not to cause no problems but man it feels good to watch the dirt that goes around come back. ... or what it almost was - THE Ohio A&M College "John R. Buchtel was instrumental in selecting the site for the A&M school ... and also led the fight to make the curriculum broad and inclusive rather than restricted to the agricultural and mechanical fields." (paraphrased from p.23 of "Summit's Glory" by George Knepper)Bummer #1 - if our founder hadn't been so influential down south, we might have been watching 16-seed THE Ohio A&M College playing 16-seed Florida A&M University tonight in the NCAA play-in game for the right to play #1 Kansas. Bummer #2 - I'd take a play-in game right now!

(sorry for the possible double-post; I was using my wife's laptop and was signed in as her; not sure if that post made it so I'm using my account)
