The question I have is who, if anyone will get redshirted? Seems like B McKnight might be the odd man out as a Frosh. Hard to believe they'd consider sitting him, but there just might not be minutes for him to make it worth keeping him active.Sort of like wishing that Quade had been redshirted I guess, but I'm thinking the roster is crowded a bit. Great problem to have, since all of the scholie players, and some of the walkons, are legit DI players.Nice change, I'd say. B) Put 'em on Zips fans! B)B)B)

I was waiting for MRASOR to report this, but, since he is being a little slow on the uptake,Lance Jeter was in the basketball offices this past Monday. Jeter has signed on to jointhe Zips. BUT, he needs to get some critical summer school work passed in order toqualify as a sophomore in the Fall. Then the clock can start ticking for his sit outtransfer year. This is not a slam dunk. Jeter has to pass his summer courses. As for the overall team let's break it down:SENIORS:========J. Wood, PF, starterN. Dials, SG, starterC. Middleton, Combo Guard, preferred sixth manQ. Milum, F, seventh manand three walk ons ---N. Goddard, G, crowd favorite, rangy shooterJ. Sallee, G, provides excellent depthZ. Sowers, G, reserveJuniors:=======J. Conyers, F/G, developing as a playerN. Linhart, F, starterSophomores:==========C. McKnight, F, saw limited action as a freshmanS. McNees, Combo G, was red shirted, developing slowlyM. Bardo, C, was red shirted, developing wellT. Carroll, G, walk onFreshmen:========R. Steward, PG, heir appearant to Dru Joyce, probable starterS. Sweich, C, best candidate to be red shirtedB. McKnight, F, the next Antonio Gates, probable starter by mid-seasonD. Roberts, G, walk on with great potentialA couple of invited Freshman walk onsWhile Cedric Middleton has definitely EARNED a starting spot on the roster, having Cedas the first man off the bench is invaluable. If his ego can handle it, that is the team'sbest interest. Not likely that Steve McNees is going to beat out Ronnie Steward for the starting pointguard role. Its a long shot at best. Darryl Roberts could push Steward. If Brett McKnight continues to improve as he has this past year look for him to takethe small forward starting position by conference play.J. Wood, Nick Dials are locks on their spots. Mike Bardo has become a strong candidateto claim the starting center position. Bardo has truly developed during his red shirtyear. Quade Milum, like Middleton serves the Zips best as the first man off the bench.Coach Dambrot has been known to jumble starting line ups. There is little reason tobelieve that he wont do that again this coming season. As for guards, you need four quality and healthy guards at the bare minimum.Overall, the Zips should contend for the East Championship. I see no one that theyKen't (sic) beat.

Why would they red shirt Sweich? I thought he was ready to contribute immediately. Besides, he and Bardo will be our only centers on the roster next season. In my crystal ball I forsee Steve McNees eventually transfering out. In Ronnie Steward and Darryl Roberts we have 2 First-Team All-Ohio point guards, and with LJ coming on next season, we've got an athletic, muscular 6'3" combo guard who, before signing with Cincy, was given recruiting priority over McNees by KD last season. This is unless McNees can develop into a stud 2-guard. He scored alot in hs but I don't know if he'll get it done in the MAC.

Hmmm, this makes sense, give the scholarship to Jeter, who might not even be eligible, has to sit a year anyway? Makes me wonder about our recruiting!
Hopefully he is committing to play for us, but will not receive a scholarship until 08 once he proves he can keep his grades where they need to be. That would allow us to use the Rybak scholarship this year for another talented recruit that has the grades and potential to play for us in 07.

Here is his choice:Kansas JC is next stop for Beaver Falls' JeterEx-Beaver Falls star returns to basketballTuesday, May 15, 2007By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-GazetteLance Jeter, a former two-sport standout at Beaver Falls High School, will restart his basketball career at a junior college with the hope of playing in the future at Kansas State.Jeter said yesterday he will attend Hutchinson Community College (Kan.) in the fall and play basketball at the two-year school. Jeter recently left the University of Cincinnati, where he was on a football scholarship. He was redshirted last season. After leaving Cincinnati, Jeter came close to accepting a basketball scholarship to Akron. But Kansas State assistant coach Brad Underwood called Jeter recently, and Kansas State urged the 6-foot-3 guard to attend Hutchinson for a year. Jeter visited Hutchinson this past weekend."Kansas State said they will be watching me, coming to my games to see how I look," Jeter said. "If I get in basketball shape, I think they'll be impressed with my abilities."Jeter would have had to sit out a year if he attended Akron. At Hutchinson, he will play this season."It was hard for me sitting out at Cincinnati, just because I was so used to playing," Jeter said. "I started thinking about if I wanted to sit out another year. I decided not to if I'm going to go back to basketball."

I really think have time to sit out next year was the difference. He sat all last year as a football Bearcat. He still could end up as a Zip. K-State could find a better player to replace by next year.So what happens with the scholarship now???

I'm betting on Goddard. No inside info...just a hunch. KD doesn't roll with JUCO's and I can't believe there's another worthwhile HS kid floating around this late in the game.
Speaking of Goddard, does anyone think he will see more playing time now that the 3-point line will be moved back? A scholarship used on a pure 3-point shooter would be well spent, especially among smaller schools who need threes to even up games against the big boys.
