skip-zip Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 We've developed so much talent and depth in our DBs that I've almost forgotten about this guy. Quote
Sergeant Zip Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Dionte who? He got my vote for the "Biggest Quitter" of last year. It's funny how they say he "transferred" from Akron. No mention of quitting because he lost his starting job. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Maybe Diontre was a victom of a "Vulcan mind meld"? Here's a strange coincedence. OK, maybe it's just mindless babble, but there was once an Akron franchise in the old Continental Football League.......it's name?...................................THE AKRON VULCANS!!! Hmmm, did they ever make rubber in southwestern PA? Oh yeah, this whole sports team names/mythology connection opens up many possibilities. Quote
Zipmeister Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 I still have my tickets for the Vulcans game on October 28, 1967. Unfortunately the team didn't last that long into their first season in the CFL, and left town owing advertisers, newspapers, equipment suppliers, hotels, and others thousands of dollars. But I'm hanging on to the tickets just in case they reschedule. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Wow Zipmeister! Although I'm originally from the Pittsburgh area, I am duly impressed. Now THAT is a serious, slice of Akron history you have there. My history with the city begins in 1979 when I first started at UA, so this pre-dates my time here. When I first stumbled upon the Vulcans, I thought the name was clever, in spite of the shadiness of the owners. In fact, I still use "Akron Vulcans" as one of my fantasy team names. Quote
