Baltimore Bobcat
Coach Brookhart needs to chill out about the fair catch hit. It's obvious the OU player never saw the fair catch. He thought he made a good play, which is why he celebrated. You got the 15-yard penalty, what more does he want?
Dr Z
You got the 15-yard penalty, what more does he want?I would guess he wanted him tossed out? If that was your player would you?I would hope if that happened to me, my coach would go crazy too.Because he didn't see him signal, doesn't make it okay. Zips fan
The illegal hit knocked our return guy out for the game. The OU player might have made a mistake and not an intentional hit but the result is the same. I agree with Brookhart for going crazy about the play. At worse, it gets the team to know he will back them, becomes a rallying point, and influences the refs to feel they should do more.
ziptrumpet87
it is the defenders responsibility to see if a fair catch was called for. you can't just blindly go plowing down the field.
UAZips
On top of the cheap shot, was the celebrating and dancing on the OU sideline after it was obvious the Akron player was injured.

He thought he made a good play, which is why he celebrated. You got the 15-yard penalty, what more does he want?Because you are a bobcat fan and your school is plagued with serious academic cheating scandals, I'm going to give you the "but he went to ou " pass. What you should know kitten is that last year in an ESPN game at ou, Andre Jones CLEARLY called a fair catch and one of your thug players blasted him. The following week, I think it was Can't, the same thing happen to them by the same player. I don't know if this years incident was by the same player, but this shows a pattern of illegal and dangerous play that the league office should look at. It would appear the coaching staff at ou likes this type of play since it seems to happen quite often. Earlier in the game ou should have been called for another penalty when Dennis Kennedy caught a short kickoff on his knee and still got hit by the same ou thug, #4 from Columbus Brookhaven. I hope UA does pursue this with the MAC commissioner. Finally as to Coach Brookhart's reaction to the play; he was standing up for his player who I'm sure he remembers had the same thing happen to him last year in athens. Same player, same cheap shot from a classless coach and school who couldn't take a knee while down 17 pints, errrr points, with seconds to play. I was going to salute the Zips big win with a drink after the game, but the TANK had already stormed through the bars. So today I toast Frank "the tank" for his lack of class and dirty play. ZachTheZip
On top of the cheap shot, was the celebrating and dancing on the OU sideline after it was obvious the Akron player was injured. It was more that than anything else. You take a cheap shot on our player and get him injured, and then do a dance on the sidelines celebrating it? That deserves an ejection more than the hit would. ZipGrad93
It's all about perspective... And, some fans of OU have some interesting perspectives, to say the least.http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/t...&PID=125143ZipGrad93
UADavid
Nice to see some ou fans criticize the hit by their player. The argument about how high his hand was is blown up by their own post. Unless Andre doesn't have fingers, palm, wrist or part of his forearm on his right arm, it's clearly above his helmet in the picture. Also nice to see that they admit it happens too often. ZipGrad93
I found it a bit alarming that some OU fans were saying that JD should apologize for his "outburst." Also, many felt there was no penalty, which is a joke.ZipGrad93
Dr Z
I like this reply:Fitzgerald's play was simultaneously the best and dirtiest hit I've seen an OU player level.

They have one game left against miami. We'll see if they continue their thug tactics. I believe one ou fan correctly remembers them doing it to us last year. He didn't recall that it was Andre Jones. UAZips
Those jackasses are judging the "celebration" by what they saw on tv. The cameras didn't show the celebration that went on after he got back to the bench.

RACER
the big issue i have is he called for a fair catch, and his knee was down anyways.there no way the ou player should have hit him regardless.saying that he did not see the fair chatch was b.s. zen
what i meant was his knee went down right after he caught the ball anyways;so it was a stupid play on ou players part.great point.... so, his manliness score goes up. :rolleyes:Anyway, I don't think he saw the fair catch call, and I really don't see a huge problem for not making a quick last second decision to lay off a guy who looks like he's taking a knee. The dance/celebration was probably just something coverage guys would do any time they think they tackled a guy for no yardage (or a loss). So, I can understand Brookhart's passion for his players, but I don't agree that there should have been an ejection. The only thing I would have a problem with is if someone shows me evidence that he was dancing after the flag was thrown, and more importantly, still celebrating after he realized a fair catch was called and he could have injured a guy.A bigger smoking gun that would change my opinion would be a photo of Fitzgerald with his eyes on our receiver calling a fair catch. Baltimore Bobcat
I think a 15 yard penalty and forcing the guy to live in Baltimore would be sufficientOh, yeah, that means a lot coming from someone from Akron. Sorry, I would have replied sooner, but I actually have a job. Anyway, I never said the OU player shouldn't have been penalized or that it wasn't a bad hit. My point was that he was given a 15-yard penalty - he got what he deserved. For your coach to rant and rave for the rest of the half was ridiculous. Even the ESPN announcers were making fun of him (mocking that he wasn't even paying attention to the game). There are 15-yard penalties all the time in football...it doesn't mean you should be thrown out. So do you throw everyone out of the game who commits a 15-yard penalty? What about a WR that goes over the middle and gets hit in the head? They get a 15-yard penalty, not tossed from the game. Be realistic. It would also have been nice to see some sportsmanship from the kid that hit him.
