WR JC Marquis Avery *** 4 star according to Scout.com ***(Fullerton)Fullerton, CA 6-4/190/4.45 Date of Visit: 12/8/2007 S JC Daniel Urias *** 3 star according to scout.com *** ( Is very high on Akron)(Saddleback)Mission Viejo, CA 6-2/217/4.54 Date of Visit: 12/7/2007 WR JC Maurice Clark *** 3 star according to scout.com ***(Saddleback)Mission Viejo, CA 6-3/205/4.50 Date of Visit: 12/7/2007 CB JC Davion Mauldin *** 2 star according to scout.com ***(Cerritos)Norwalk, CA 5-11/187/4.40 Date of Visit: 12/7/2007 Wonder how their visits went and if they liked what we had to offer. Im sure that JD and the rest of the coaches were drilling into their heads about the new 64 million dollar stadium we will have in 2 years...... lets hope that they liked what they seen, because we need some playmakers on the field.

So this is what Zips recruiting has come to?We're hitting the JUCO's harder than ever b/c the cupboard is bare at so many positions.Look, these may all be fine young athletes, stellar citizens, good scholars and excellent football players, but to me the emphasis on JUCO's spells B A D BAD for this program. To me it is just another statement that the recruiting efforts of this regime for the last 4 years has left the cupboard almost entirely bare of talent at key positions and that we are having no luck bringing in players through the normal processes. Say what you guys want to, but long term I don't think this is at all a good sign for this program.

i dont think that having three-four jc a year is not going to hurt, but i understand your point.what suprises me is we only gave one qb offer to a high school qb.that tells me that jd must think rogers can do the job.if i was jd i would be serioulsy looking at every jc qb out there.wr are nice but we need someone to get them the ball first.offering these guys like you said shows how weak our recruitng classes have been.

A couple JUCO WR's and DB's have a visit and the sky is falling? I don't get it?Hell yes we should be bringing in some JUCO WR's. You want to go into 2008 with Fuqua, Williams and Sandilands as #1, #2 and #3? Those JUCO's visiting are some great players. And we need some great players if we're going to have an offense that can move the ball in 2008. Are Freshman really less risky to pursue than JUCO's? Ask David Harvey and Jermaine Lindsay. And, if we can get an experienced DB to soften the blow of Corner and Tate leaving, all the better. In the end, we'll have a least 80% of the 2008 recruiting class entering as Freshman. That's fine.

There are still 10-or-so scholarships left to give. Odds are another QB will be added to the class.

i've heard the name Boo Jackson floted around a bit. he's a juco kid with the ability to run a spread o. not sure if he has an offer but i think he has 3 yrs to play 2. i am all for the juco rout for this year. this team needs to win now. the 07 class was really good and another strong class this year will make up for the mistakes in 06. :screwks:

You're missing my point Cap'n. Think about this. Why is it that, without bringing in JUCO's we would be stuck with Fuqua, Williams and Sandilands at WR next year? Why hasn't this staff been able to bring in and retain even one starting caliber WR through normal (high school) means in the four years they've been here? Why doesn't it seem like we have any decent talent outside of these JUCO kids on the board at WR? Look, I know that you're still a JD supporter, and I'm not. And there isn't a darn thing either of us are going to say to change that. But I can't help but wonder just where this is all leading. Today it's a few JUCO WR's and DB's, tomorow half the team is coming in from the JUCO's cause we can't get any talent in any other way. I just think it points to a dangerous trend starting to develop. That's all.

Wait till you see what Boo can do! My nephew is a former El Camino O-lineman. I'll have him put in a good word with coaches about our home town. El Camino is located near LAX Airport.
Based on the pic of Boo in his JC uniform, he would look natural in a Zip uni! I can just hear all of the female Zip fans now, arguing over who gets to righfully call him "my Boo". Maybe our head start on a new stadium, as compared to Memphis (who has already offered), might hold some sway?

Why is it dangerous to bring in JUCO players? The only reason not to do it is some of you may like the comfort of losing. There is no rule against bringing in JUCO players. I understand that JUCO players may not be the whight type of players that you guys love, but they are good players none the less. They can also be immediate impact players.Teams out west bring in JUCO players all the time. If we have three or four on the team, it isn't a big deal. Look at the rosters of teams like Fresno State, Hawaii, Boise State, New Mexico, etc. Those teams load up with JUCO players. Vic Green was a JUCO player and one of the top five players ever at Akron. The same goes for Biggs. Mike Johnson was a JUCO player. If bringing in JUCO players allows us to bring in a player like Vic or Biggs, I say bring in more.

I would agree w/ Captain. You bring a few 2-4 Star JUCOs in and suddenly the sky is falling and the end is near. Several of you are always screaming we need great players and need immediate impact players. Well, here you go.. I would be concerned if it was 80% JUCO and 20% freshman, which I don't think is going to be the case...thus the sky is not falling. Word is that the Janaury 18th weekend is the big recruiting weekend in terms of 15-20 players on campus for a vist.

How about one like Brian Williams?
Stop making sense and seeing things clearly!

I noticed a little "teaser" blurb on scout.com that made it seem like Avery could be close to committing to the Zips. Here is what it says on his page (you have to be an insider to read the whole thing).Avery gets close to making a decision Top JC wideout is a playmaker and one MAC school is close to getting his commitment-by Seahawks.NET Dec 11, 2007I realise these snippets don't really mean much, but it does seem to suggests that the Zips at least have a shot at this guy. I saw on another site where he is supposed to visit STONY BROOK (?) today and they have offered. I didn't even know that STONY BROOK offered FB scholarships (thought they were I-AA/FCS non-scholarship). Oh well, if it's true that he is visiting a FCS school (and not even a top-tier program at that), then I would like to think this might be a good sign.

Another JC football player interested in Akron is former Boise State WR Aiona Key. He is a very athletic 6'4'' wideout with speed and serious hops - he high jumped 7 feet in HS. One scouting service indicates that he made an official visit to Akron in the fall. However, his school of primary interest appears to be Utah.http://jcfootball.scout.com/a.z?s=87&p...amp;nid=3509161http://cleveland.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...326&sport=1
