timmyboy
Minnesota Vikings safety Dwight Smith was cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana after his vehicle was stopped for impeding traffic at a downtown intersection Thursday night, according to the police report. When the officer approached the car to issue a citation, he smelled the "strong odor of marijuana" coming from the vehicle, according to the report. "I have been made aware of the allegations and have been proactive in dealing with the Minneapolis Police Department and will have further comment once all the facts have been gathered and the investigation is complete," Vikings coach Brad Childress said in a written statement. He declined to say whether Smith would play Monday night against the Chicago Bears at the Metrodome. He did practice with the team Friday. A man who answered Smith's cell phone said Smith wasn't there and took a callback message. Smith's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, didn't immediately return a callback message left by The Associated Press Friday evening. The fine for misdemeanor possession of marijuana is $125 for a first offense, but Smith could face punishment from the NFL under its substance abuse policy. Last year, Smith was cited by police for indecent conduct with a woman in a downtown stairwell and was suspended by Childress for last season's opening game as punishment. InTheZone
Dwight wasn't exactly a choir boy in his akron days either. I know we all complain about the local media's lack of coverage of Akron sports, but trust me, it has its advantages, especially with the lot JD's brought in since he's been here. GP1
I'm sure a lot of us on this board smoked some pot when we were young. I'm sure a lot of us would smoke pot now if our companies did not have Puritanical random drug testing programs. I wish to only offer Dwight some advice in lieu of casting stones. I'll leave the casting of stones up to the racists and moralists who regularly post on this board. Dwight, smoke in your house and keep it out of your car.As far as having sex in a public place...Was anyone hurt? If not, shit happens. Having sex wherever and whenever you want to is one of the perks of playing in the NFL. Why is the Janice Joplin song "Get It While You Can" running through my head?Just keep on playing good football Dwight! Be smarter!

Be smarter!Dude, You never cease to amaze me! My kids read this board, I hope you are kidding about this? Half serious, half kidding. My guess is that 70% of the NFL smokes pot on a regular basis and 80% smokes pot at some point during the year. I don't swoon with outrage when I read things like this. In fact, I find the stupidity of the average NFL player funny at times.I don't think children across NE Ohio are going to go run out and buy a bong, an ounce of pot and go out and bang some chick in a stairwell because Dwight Smith did it. Considering what I read in the paper, kids smoking pot these days would be a welcome change from the smack and other harsh drugs they are using in their parents suburban basements. Most people reading my post probably just said, "There he goes again" while chuckling about some of the parties they may have gone to in college or go to in college. Sorry if reality can be both funny and harsh. Find some humor.
ZippyRulz
Dude is raising a son and 2 brothers so smoking anything at home would be a bad idea. And his idol Batman wasn't no stoner, either (Robin...maybe)Yahoo interview:Robinson: So how is your life off the field these days? Are you living well? Smith: Yeah. My son (Dwight Jr.) just had his eighth birthday. My grandparents are still alive and kicking, so everything is lovely for me. I got custody of two of my brothers, too. They are 15 and 16. To see them basically trying to walk in my footsteps is something. One just lost in the state semifinals in football. Robinson: You're Mr. Mom these days, huh? Smith: That's exactly what they call me now. At 29, I've had them for six years. I've had to grow up really quick over the last few years. Zippysgotagun
I liked D.S. until he cost me 50 bucks. I had the winning numbers on an oakland/T.B. super bowl board...then he ran his second interception back for a touchdown. I've harbored a grudge ever since. (I kid, I kid)My issues here are not moral ones, they're legal ones. The only issues I have with what he did are the fact that laws exist here that say you can't do that. Laws exist, and when men break them, they should expect to pay the price for it. Same with his impending suspension now. The NFL has clearly stated rules for such circumstances, and he has violated them. That's his choice to make, but he knows the repercussions. Honest to God, I think there was an episode like that once. Given that it aired in the 70s, it may have happened.

If I've forgotten, at least I have old age to blame, and not anything I smoked!
